1. I served my country for 26 years in the U.S.

Navy with distinction and integrity receiving many

awards and accolades. I taught school for 15 years and was known by my parents, grandparents
and guardians as one of the most caring and concerned teachers on campus. I am the chairman
of the Deacon Board at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church and Im also on the Usher Board
and a member of the Evangelism Ministry.
2. My plan is to ensure the same problems dont occur is to have complete transparency and
oversight.
3. Since part of my platform is built on student discipline, my top priority is to address this problem
first. Having taught school for 15 years as an ROTC Instructor, our program was built on
discipline, respect, and integrity. So I am use to students doing what is asked of them and not
being a discipline problem. Those students consistently creating discipline problems should be
removed from those campuses and placed at the alternative campus until they stop that
negative behavior or stay until the end of the school year.
4. I regret that the previous Board of Trustees didnt do a better job of overseeing the districts
business and not be more transparent. I will ensure that the community is kept informed of all
necessary issues that affect the district.
5. I believe I am qualified to make policy decisions for the district because I worked in the district
for 10 years and have been aware of many of the issues and decisions made that have affected
the district as whole, some negative and some positive. Ive had an opportunity to see what
worked and what didnt. Basically, my decisions would be made with whats best for the entire
district in mind.
6. My plan is to help make BISD one of the top districts in the state of Texas. Currently we are
ranked 832 out of 936 districts in the state. In order to make the district better, we need to gain
the communitys trust by maintaining the financial security we currently enjoy. Increase the
number of students passing the STAAR Exam. Hire more certified teachers and be more
transparent about district spending.
7. I am not sure which campus has the highest number of Spanish speaking students and it
shouldnt matter because a school district is supposed to meet all student needs regardless of
race. My job will be to ensure we are doing everything we can for all students, especially ESL
students.
8. I believe there are many incentives already in place to attract qualified bilingual teachers.
Unfortunately there are more positions available than teachers. Once in office, I will look at
what the district is offering and what can we do to increase it.
9. There is a lot of alcohol and drug abuse with our children in the community and the schools. I
believe we need more prevention and drug and alcohol education programs available to help to
reduce or eliminate this serious problem.
10. Yes, I support ESL and bilingual programs in the district.
11. There are programs already in place to help all students, especially those with special needs.
However, my plan is to look at those available to ensure we are doing all we can or what
improvements can be made.
12. In my opinion, some of our classes have too many students for the teachers to be as effective as
they could be. Hiring more certified teachers will greatly reduce or eliminate this problem.
13. Im not sure about school districts of the same size, but BISD is ranked 832 out of 936 districts in
the state of Texas.
14. The biggest change would be to gain the Texas Education Commissioner and communitys trust
again. They need to know that all elected officials are not the same and most officials really care
about our children and the city of Beaumont.
15. I do not believe there should be transgender restrooms in the district but I will follow the law.
16. The Board of Trustees actually has to follow whatever state and federal laws and rules. I
personally disagree with ICE coming on any campus in the district and terrorizing students and
parents and that it should not be allowed.
17. One of my top priorities is to hire more certified, motivated, caring teachers. I will also ensure
that all current teachers are routinely evaluated as is currently required by district policy,
18. Question for District #2 candidate, Im an At-Large Candidate.
19. When Im elected, I will address paid parent coordinators on campuses because we need parent
involvement on all of our campuses.
20. Yes, when elected, I will work on a plan to attract and retain highly qualified teachers at all
schools.
21. As I understand, trustees dont actually handle money.
22. The Board only has one employee and that is the superintendent. The superintendent is to
instruct all district staff to follow district policies and instructions as delegated by the board.
23. I believe that all schools need to be assessed as to what is needed on each campus. Obviously all
schools have different needs.
24. My 11 year old daughter currently attend All Saints Academy but has taken and passed the
exam and been accepted to Odem Academy.
25. Yes, I firmly believe that school atmosphere plays a huge part when it comes to student
discipline. My plans are to help change that with schools that have uncontrolled student
discipline problems by changing that atmosphere. I have found that children will only do what
you allow them to do. Student discipline is a big problem through-out the entire district. My
plans are to aggressively attack this problem by instructing all campus principals to sternly
enforce all district policies. I also plan to insist on parent involvement of the students creating
these problems.
26. I actually taught in the district for 10 years as an ROTC Instructor. That program is based on
discipline and respect. My ROTC Unit did not experience all of the discipline problems seen on
most campuses because I did not allow it. What we currently dont have is consistency with all
staff on all campuses enforcing discipline. What is needed is 100% compliance from all teachers
and staff and 100% backing of the administrative staff. Unruly students should not be allowed to
continuously misbehave without serious consequences. Those students should be sent to
Pathways and not allowed to return to their campus for multiple offenses. There should be
training for all parents on the districts discipline policy to ensure that both district and parents
are on the same page.
