To Whom It May Concern:

Sophie Griswold was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our 4-unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient services. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.

Sophie Griswold is one of the best and brightest RNs-to-be from a highly competitive class of
one of the top Colleges of Nursing in the nation. What more could a healthcare organization
want in a new member on their team. Just review again Sophie's remarkable resum. There is
no question that her GPA, Honors thesis/presentation, Honor Society membership, dual
degrees, and unique volunteer activities are impressive. However, take note that here is the
only student I've known who wrote "serving my community" as integral to her objective. That
combination of "smarts" and heart that sets Sophie apart.

Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Sophie will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice

So it behooves you to interview Sophie as soon as possible. When you do, you will recognize
that, although she looks good on paper, her very presence demonstrates important personal
qualities such as poise, maturity, and warmth. Based on the dynamics of her clinical group with
me, Sophie is a hardworking, supportive team member. In addition, she has "future nursing
leader" written all over her. So get Sophie on board soon so that later you can say -
"Why, I hired Sophie as a new grad and just look at all her accomplishments.

Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN

Clinical Instructor
