Objective (Explicit):
Each student will independently complete a graphic organizer identifying the causes and effects of the War of
1812
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):
Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
Assign value to each portion of the response
Students will include at least three causes and at least three effects of the War of 1812 in their graphic organizer.
Each cause and effect should include a brief explanation (1-2 sentences). Students will receive 1 point for each
cause and effect they include and 1 point for each explanation.
I.E.: A response such as A cause of the War of 1812 was impressment. This refers to the action in which the
British took American sailors and forced them to serve in the British navy would receive two points
85% of students will receive an A on this assignment in order to move on to the next lesson. Students will hand in
their graphic organizers at the end of class as an exit ticket

Teacher will explain to students that they will be learning about the causes and effects of the War of 1812, as well
as several important events that occurred before and during the war. Teacher will then tell students that they will
complete a graphic organizer at the end of the lesson. The teacher will then ask students what they remember about
westward expansion and conflict with the Native Americans, as these concepts will figure into the lesson.
Instructional Input
