INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVE

After the presentation of a SMART Lesson on World War II, students will work with a group to

identify the most significant causes of the war and independently write a letter to a pen pal

imagining that they are a student in Italy during WWII using no less than three facts discussed in

class.

STANDARDS AND INDICATORS

Writing: Text Types and Purposes (W.9-10.2b)

Students will develop claim(s) and counterclaims fairly and thoroughly, supplying the

most relevant evidence for each while pointing out the strengths and limitations of both in

a manner that anticipates the audiences knowledge level and concerns.

Indicator: This will be evident when students write a letter to their pen pal explaining

what is going on in Europe at the time.
