LESSON PLAN FORMAT:


Objectives:

Summarize Information in text, maintain meaning and logical order.[RCE]


Use ideas (e.g., illustrations, tiles, topic sentences, key words, and
foreshadowing clues) to make and confirm predictions.[2A]
Paraphrase the themes and supporting details of fables, legends, myths, or
stories.[5A]
Sequence and summarize the plots main events and explain their influence
on future events.[8A]
Describe the interaction of characters including their relationships and
changes they undergo.[8B]

Focus/ Anticipatory:

The main focus of the lesson will be reading the story Yonder Mountain. The
students will listen to a recording of a CD that will read aloud the book to
them.

Relevancy:

To have the story tie into ones life, I am going to ask the students When has
there been a time in your life you needed to put someone before yourself?
Instead of having the students all say their answers at once they will turn
over to their neighbor and take about 20 seconds to share a time they the
needed to put someone before themselves.

Explanation/Teaching Strategies& Modeling:

During the modeling process the students will model how to stop and think
about what was just read.
The students will also model writing a summary that includes the problem
and solution.

Questioning Strategies:

Higher Order Thinking Questions that I plan to ask the students while we read
through the book.

Guided Practice:
For this lesson I would say the whole thing is going to be guided practice. The
students will never work independently. We will do everything as a whole

o Go through the steps of Summary(Beginning, Middle, End)
o Write a summary together as a class for the story Yonder Mountain

Closure:

For the closure I will identify the THEME with the students. The students will
also be reminded of the previous things we talked about for THEME.

Independent Practice:

For this lesson the students will not be required to do any independent work.
The students will complete all summary worksheets as a class. This is going
to be ongoing lesson, so independent work will being coming later on in the
week.
