Introduction
The Tourism Competence Guidelines were compiled by the MTA’s Strategic Planning and ResearchDivision on behalf of the Human Resource and Support Services Directorate with a view toestablishing occupational competence guidelines in the tourism industry. These guidelines were drawn up following a consultation process with key people fromaccommodation and catering establishments, together with representatives from the Instituteof Tourism Studies. A number of working groups were set up to discuss competences relating tofood and beverage service, food preparation and cooking, housekeeping as well as front officeoperations. The competences are based on the National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) drawnup by the Hospitality Training Foundation (HTF) in the UK. A number of HR-related researchstudies, both local and foreign, were also taken into account. For more information on the TourismCompetence Guidelines please contact:Joseph TantiManager, Training and DevelopmentHuman Resource & Support ServicesDirectorateEmail: joseph.tanti@visitmalta.comTel: 22915405/22915401Fax: 22915896Claire SaidSenior ExecutiveStrategic Planning & Research DivisionEmail: claire.said@visitmalta.comTel: 22915707/22915700Fax: 22915895These guidelines are also available online at:www.mta.com.mt.
