COURSE CODE : CHE 692
PROGRAM : EH220/EH221
SEMESTER : 6
CREDIT HOURS : 3.0
CONTACT HOURS : 6.0
COURSE STATUS : CORE
PRE-REQUISITE : NIL

2.0 SYNOPSIS

This course introduces the dynamic behavior of a given chemical process such as
gravity flow tank, batch reactor, non-isothermal reactors, CSTR, vaporizer, distillation
column and flash drum by deriving a mathematical model. The derivations of the
mathematical modeling is then will be solved by using numerical methods (i.e.
Newton Raphson, False position, Euler algorithm, Runge-Kutta 4th order methods,
and Wegstein) by using computer software/program (MATLAB/EXCEL)

3.0 OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Identify various types of mathematical model for different applications in

chemical processes (C1, C2, A1, A2, PO2, PO4)
2. Develop and/or simulate mathematical models for chemical processes (C3, C4,
A1, A2, A3, PO2, PO4, PO6)
3. Justify the choice of mathematical models developed and/or simulated for
chemical processes (C5, A1, A2, A3, PO2, PO4, PO6)
