History of American Space Exploration Essay

NASA is the National Aeronautics Space Administration. It is a United States

government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space. NASA

was founded on July 29, 1958. So come along for the building of NASA creation through the

years.

Early in the American Space Program the worlds first artificial satellite ( Sputnik l) was

launched on October 4, 1957. On May 25, 1961 John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the U.S.

announced his goal of landing man on the moon. Seven astronauts were recruited for this project

to go to the moon. Only Neil A. Armstrong,Commander, Michael; Collins, Command Module

Pilot, Buzz aldrin, Pilate journeyed to the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the

moon on July 20, 1969, and made his famous remarks, Thats one small step for [a] man, one

giant leap for mankind. That was the start of it all for N.A.S.A. . In 1974 the U.S. mariner 10

Spacecraft orbited Mercury. It photographed the surface of the nearest planet to the sun.Voyager

1 and Voyager 2 were launched in 1977 and flew past three planets. When the spacecraft flew

past Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus it continued toward the outer boundaries of the solar system and

beyond that.

The first manned winged vehicle was launched in 1981. Astronaut John Young, a veteran of

four previous spaceflights including a walk on the moon in 1972, commanded the mission.

Hubble Deep Field Telescope, launched in 1990, and to this day still continues to gather

information from the deepest reach of space. In 1993, the Magellan spacecraft was able to view

the Venusian landscape. The International Space Station, established in 1998, and opened up new

opportunities for space missions. In 2012, NASA successfully landed Curiosity, a land rover on
Mars. Curiosity is a car-sized robotic rover exploring Gale Crater on Mars as part of NASA's

Mars Science Laboratory mission.

NASA has improved greatly over the years including their space shuttles, technology,

uniforms, etc. ISS has established new, up and coming missions for June. They have new

advances such as

A system designed to transform the Martian atmosphere into rocket fuel is helping

microbreweries recapture carbon dioxide and carbonate their beer. Mission STS- 135 launched in

2011, with help of commander Christopher Ferguson. In my opinion NASA has made so many

great chances that has helped the USA greatly.
