Objectives: should be posted in the classroom for the students to reference, as well as
an agenda
by the end of the lesson, students will be able to :
Identify the level of stress they are under
Define perception, stressor, and psychosomatic response
Discuss the three stages of the stress response

Standards:
MACF 1.12 Describe the growth patterns and body changes within human beings
throughout the life cycle (from prenatal through late adulthood), including critical periods
in growth and development
MACF 5.11 Analyze healthy ways to express emotions and to cope with feelings,
including the common causes of stress, its effects on the body, and managing stress
MACF 5.19 Explain positive techniques for handling difficult decisions
MACF 6.11 Identify steps for getting support or help, including identifying resources for
families whose members have special health needs

Activity 1: Question of the Day


The students will enter the classroom and sit in their assigned seat. The question of the
day will be on the board and the students will immediately answer it in their notebook.

Introduction: Review the stress response and terms for the chapter. Relate
information as to why people may act the way they do in social situations, Stress can
affect all parts of a persons life.
Ask the students...
What are the three stages to the stress response
Define the three terms perception, stressor, and psychosomatic response

Activity 2: If the students did not finish chapter 4 lesson 1 handout, they can finish it
while the class discusses some of the answers.

Activity 3: Pressure Pass Activator


The students will work in two groups as they pass a ball around in the circle until the
music is stopped. Once the music stopped, the student who has the ball will try to shoot
it into the basket in the middle of the group, equalling one point. This becomes more
challenging when students are assigned roles to put pressure on other classmates to
make shots.

Activity 4: Feeling Stressed Out Worksheet


The students will draw themselves feeling stressed out. They may use words to
describe physical reactions, thoughts, and feelings when stressed.

Activity 5: Stress Symptom Assessment


The students will work independently on this worksheet, assessing how often they have
stress symptoms within the past three months
The teacher should discuss the severity of stress on the body and long term effects.

Activity 6: Stages of stress response activity


The students will each receive a true statement about one of the three stages of the
stress response. (the statements should come from information on the pre and post
test. The students will need to put the statement in the correct bag- either alarm,
resistance, or fatigue response. Review with the students

Ticket to leave: Students will fill out an answer to the question on the ticket to leave,
and hand to the teacher before exiting the room
