PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS: SPREADSHEETS, WORD TEMPLATE, NARRATED POWERPOINT

questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than
in another

Description of how to implement in the class: Students will be divided into groups and given a bag
of Skittles candy. The students will gather information on the amount of colors in each bag. They will
collect their findings on the Excel template provided by the teacher. The data will automatically be
placed onto a graph. Students will examine the graph and compare their findings with the rest of the
groups.
After this, students will be allows to collect their own data from their peers. They can choose
whatever topic they would like to collect data on. After gathering data, students will go to the
computer lab as a class and create their own Excel spreadsheets to display their data. Their
spreadsheets will be shared on the classroom blog for parents and students to see.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This lesson is a LoTi level 4. Students are collecting
information and creating their own original product and working independently. They are sharing it
within the school community on the classroom blog.
Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *: Students will access the
template via the classroom blog. The students will open up the spreadsheet and see a chart and blank
graph that will fill in as the insert the data. The spreadsheet is color coordinated but students are
welcome to add pictures or change the graph layout if they choose to.
