Task 1: Diagnostic Assessment Interview

1. What diagnostic assessment has taken place this semester?


According to the gathered information, my mentor school teacher (MST) stated that an
informal diagnostic assessment was conducted on the first week of school at the
beginning of the year. In addition, this assessment was done by providing activities for
the students such as writing about their summer holiday. Once the students work is
collected from their teacher, a formal assessment is given to them from Abu Dhabi
Education Council (ADEC).

2. When did this occur?


The formal diagnostic assessment occurred on the third week of September 2017. This is
because, the teachers had to wait for the students to assemble and gave them the
assessment in an individual basis.

3. What types of assessments were conducted? (written, oral, practical, etc.)


Written and oral exams were the types of assessments that were conducted by ADEC in
all three subjects (English, Math and Science). Therefore, comprehension and reading
fluency were the skills that students were assessed on, in English subject. Whereas, in
mathematics students were given more advanced word problems that belongs to grade
four and five. This is because, teachers wanted challenge the students abilities of
achievements.

4. Who developed these assessments?


The official written assessments were developed by ADEC. Whereas, the oral
assessments were developed by my MST and two teachers from his team.
5. Who conducted the assessments? (Classroom teacher, Arabic teacher, classroom assistant,
etc.)
The assessments were conducted by my MST, and two student teachers form Abu Dhabi
Womans Collage who assisted him with Arabic language.

6. Were the assessments completed by students individually?


The assessments were completed by each student individually.

7. What information did you hope to get from the assessments?


According to my MST, he stated that the purpose of these assessments was to get an idea
about the students learning levels and abilities in order to give them the best challenging
learning environment.

8. What decisions did you make based on the assessments?


After students complete the assessment, my MST make accommodations and
adjustments if needed based on the results to ensure the students success.

9. How did you group your students? (same/different academic levels, friendship groups,
similar interests, etc.)
Students were grouped according to their learning abilities. In which, higher leveled
students were integrated with lower leveled students.

10. Do the groups change for different learning subjects/topics?


The composite groups of children change, and if students are developing or loosing track
changes occur.
