Mayo Clinic Staff. Organic Foods: Are They Safer? More Nutritious? Mayo Clinic, Mayo

Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER), 9 June 2014,

www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/organic-

food/art-20043880. Accessed 16 Mar. 2017. This website is the first website I came

across, and probably the most reliable because it is an organizations website. It clearly

explains what the USDA label means, and I learned a lot just from that. It has four pages

of well written, clearly laid out facts and is credible and informative. I feel everything I

need I could get from this one source. I will find this source very valuable in my research.

Brown, Mary Jane. What Is Organic Food, and Is It Better Than Non-Organic? Authority

Nutrition,

Authority Nutrition, 17 Aug. 2016, authoritynutrition.com/what-is-organic-food/.

Accessed 16

Mar. 2017. This website is one of my personal favorites, so I trust it. The article clearly

lists and

explains how organic foods have grown in popularity, how theyre unique, and how they

compare nutrition wise. It links studies with the subject matter, and very conveniently

gives a

bottom line at the end of each section. It gives out helpful advice such as what to look for

when

buying food.

direct=true&db=fsr&AN=119259021&site=eds-live. This article is good at providing the

opposite idea of what consumers think- that organic foods may not be any different than

conventional foods. With an incredible display of vocabulary knowledge, well thought-

out study examples, and comparative studies, it provides all necessary functions of a

scholarly article. It also comes at the idea with evidence that consumer confidence in

organic food is based both in lowering environmental impacts and health diseases. The

aim of the present review is to compare nutritional properties of agricultural products

cultivated following organic and conventional procedures.

2017. This academic article provides the thought that growing up healthy can contribute

to

developmental success in the future. The author says children should eat organic food if

possible, pointing out that a growing body of research shows that pesticides affect

children

before they're even born and are linked to subsequent autism and ADHD, and childhood

pesticide exposure has been linked to obesity, asthma, cancer, food allergies and delayed

or

abnormal development.

Pollan, Michael. The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals. New York, New

York

City, The Penguin Press, 2006. This book is very good at observing how weve been

made to

eat, and the different processes associated with making food. He talks about how being

vegan

can disrupt the natural flow of our society, eliminating natural plant sources that are

harder to

maintain than animals. This book has received raving reviews on Amazon and is a New

York

Times bestseller. This book could put together all the pieces of the puzzle for me.

What Is Organic Food? Epipheo, 6 Nov. 2012, youtu.be/GhIZWhJtY8w. Accessed 21 Mar. 2017.

This video is a quick and efficient way of showing how the word organic becomes

synonymous with healthy. Although it usually means many things have been assured to

make the product more natural, it is completely disassociated from the nutritional facts. I

like how this video was easy to follow and I didnt have a problem with the childlike

animations. Ive found myself in this situation and it even helped me to remember not to

just pick stuff off the shelves if it says organic, but instead find whole foods to eat. A lot

can be said about such a small, short video.
