BEYOND-THE-BASIC PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

Name: Amanda Berlin

Grade Level: 2nd grade
Content Area: Science
Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Inspiration 9
Standards Addressed:
S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.
a). Determine the sequence of the life cycle of common animals in your area: a
mammal such as a cat or dog or classroom pet, a bird such as a chicken, an
amphibian such as a frog, and an insect such as a butterfly
Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:
Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating
Creating
Description of how to implement in the class: The instructor will introduce this
topic of life cycles by asking the class about themselves. For example, Class, how did
you develop into the person you are today?. This will begin a conversation about
how we all start out as babies and begin to develop from there. We all are born as an
infant and we grow and become a toddler, then a child, a teenager, an adult, and
eventually we become elderly. The instructor will inform the class of how animals go
through this process as well, although the stages are different. A frog will be used as
an example. This is when the teacher will show the web he/she created on Inspiration
9.

The instructor will walk the students through the lifecycle of a frog but first, be sure to
explain to the class how to read the chart created (web is read clockwise and the
arrows lead to the next stage of development). Once the teacher goes into further
detail of the life cycle of a frog, it will be the students turn to create a lifecycle web of
an animal of their choosing. This will serve as a small group assignment. Students will
be allowed to research their animal and learn about their development before they
construct a web. They will then apply this newly learned knowledge to create a web
with the teachers assistance, instructions, and scaffolding. Once students complete
this assignment, they will present it to the class.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): I believe this activity falls under LoTi
level 3. The activity/lesson is teacher directed, but the students are still generating
something that will be presented for other to see and learn from. Because students
are creating a product, they are reaching higher levels of Blooms taxonomy, making
this activity fall into the 3rd level.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: This example of the frog
lifecycle will serve as a guide for the students to follow and look back to if they find
themselves struggling or stuck. The students final product should have a title stating
which animal cycle they created a web for, labels for each stage of their animals
development, pictures that correlate to each stage, and a description of the stages.
The stages also need to be in the correct order of occurrence.
Other comments about your proposed BBPT Activity: This piece software is a
great presentation tool. Although there are other alternative programs available such
as Microsoft PowerPoint, Inspiration 9 definitely provides easy layouts and templates
of charts such as webs, trees, lines, and maps.
