o This program allowed me to go into a local elementary school
once a week for one hour, and tutor kindergarten and 4th/5th
grade students.
o Volunteering with this program furthered my teaching
experience, and it allowed me to meet and build relationships
with students that I, otherwise, may not have encountered.
Other Experience With Children:
Babysitter/Nanny 2011 2017
o Ages of children: Newborn 14 years old
Study Abroad England and France May 2016
o This program allowed me to observe and assist the teachers at
Queensmill School in London, England. This is a school
designated for children on the autistic spectrum. During my time
there, I learned all about the many different aspects of autism
itself. In addition, I observed many different ways the staff at this
school accommodated the students. Many of the students
attending this school are non-verbal. To encourage the students
to communicate, the staff uses PECS (picture exchange
communication system.) This communication system allows the
students who are non-verbal to communicate their needs/wants,
while at the same time; the staff encourages the students to
verbally communicate. The students at this school are constantly
changing from activity to activity to keep them calm and
stimulated. Because of this experience, I am better able to
understand and accommodate the needs of any autistic children
that may enter my future classroom. In addition to my
experience at Queensmill, this trip gave me the opportunity to
immerse myself in the history and culture of England and France.
