Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

In order to successfully be admitted into a Bachelor's level program at UNLV, NSC, or

UNR, the first level of Praxis Core Exam needs to be completed. This assessment requires the

individual to be fluent in multiple subjects. The test scores necessary to pass in Nevada are: Math

150, Reading 156, and Writing 162.

Exam Preparation

Prior to the practice examination, I was under the impression that I had acquired the

necessary tools to help me achieve a better understanding of the material. I utilized multiple

websites that depicted sample questions and even provided the rubric for the tests. I am also

fortunate enough to have a family member that has recently graduated as a Primary Education

Major and she provided some guidance; although, this family member also indicated that the

Math section would require plenty of studying, because of the multitude of formulas needed.

Unfortunately, this information altered my studying strategy and resulted in me focusing on this

section primarily.

Exam Results

In Math, I scored 85% and that means that I am very likely to pass this section. The

Writing section I scored a 68% and this categorizes me in the middle and I believe with emphasis

on better reading comprehension, I will succeed. The final test I took was the Reading and this is

where I realized my studying strategy was not successful. I scored a 48% which means that

improvement is needed. These numbers although not fully representative of my intellect, are a
great illustration of my weaknesses. With this newly acquired information I can achieve better

scores on the real Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

These examinations helped me realize how unprepared I am. My studying habits also

need to be revised, because I allotted most of the time on the Math section. The arrangement of

my tests also needs to be adjusted because after taking the Math test and having to do all the

problems on paper resulted in me getting exhausted. This lesson taught me that I need to take the

tests on separate days, because time management is crucial. I will also invest in either a book or

an online program to facilitate studying. I will periodically research more on how to comprehend

the information that I read. Most importantly I will sign up to take the math portion as soon as

possible to get that section covered and to help me get the motivation required to excel on all

portions of the Praxis.
