Overall Reflection

There is always something to learn when taking a step back and evaluating

anything you do. Rather it may be evaluating the work you are doing in a course, or

evaluating the way that you are living your life. Through this portfolio I was able to do

both. Originally I saw the goal of this portfolio as just a summary of all the things I did in

UWRT 1104, but now that the semester is coming to an end and this portfolio is coming

to an end I realize that the goal was a lot more than that. The true goal of this portfolio

was to take the skills that I learned in this class, apply it to my writing abilities, and write

about my life, my studies, and my aspirations.

For those of you that are reading my portfolio, I encourage you to read through it

however you feel that it should be read through. I set it up so that the first page is an

About Me where you can get a general idea of myself to make the rest of my portfolio

more relatable for the reader. From that point on you can just click on whichever part of

the portfolio that seems interesting and go from there. The only case where it would be

beneficial to go in an order would be when you are going through my Past Authoring

and Future Authoring sections. These two follow an order of my life and really give a

reader an idea of how I have developed throughout.

The Student learning Outcomes are demonstrated all throughout my Portfolio

with the first being Rhetorical Knowledge. Rhetorical knowledge is the ability to identify

and apply strategies across a range of texts and writing situations. I used this when I was

doing my Annotated Bibliography because I had to identify with the correct audience and

write in a way that related to them. The second learning objective that I used in my

portfolio was Critical Reading, which is the ability to analyze, synthesize, interpret, and

evaluate ideas, information and texts. This objective was evident in my paper What

shaped me into who I am today. I was able to analyze and interpret my past experiences

and relate them into the development of myself as a young adult. In addition, I also used

the Composing Processes learning objective. This objective is based on how writers use

multiple strategies, or composing processes, to conceptualize, develop, and finalize

projects. I would have to say that I used this throughout my entire portfolio. This

objective is a very broad idea and definitely key in the completion of my portfolio. I also

used the Knowledge of Conventions throughout my entire portfolio. I used the formal

rules that helped me define credibility to my readers. Finally, I was able to use Critical

Reflection in my portfolio. A specific example would be this reflection. I am able to look

back throughout my whole portfolio and connect it all together not only for the reader but

also for myself.

In my portfolio I was able to dive into the different Habits of the Mind. The one

that was most evident for myself was Creativity. Although this assignment had specific

guidelines, I was able to put my individual spin on each section of the portfolio. Then in

the end I was able to edit the portfolio and add pictures that portrayed myself, my own

individual creativity, and the way that I wanted the audience to perceive my work. In

addition to creativity, I also used Responsibility. With a final due date given at the

beginning of the semester, it leaves a lot of responsibility on myself to manage my time

and make sure that I am getting my work done in a timely matter so that my final

portfolio is at the best it can be. Lastly, I used Curiosity in my assignment. I used

Curiosity because I was curious on how I would personally evaluate myself throughout

the years. What I ended up finding out about myself was the most beneficial part of my

assignment.

What I learned about myself through the process of completing this portfolio was

that I have a better idea of what I want to achieve throughout my life then I originally

thought that I did. I knew beforehand that I had goals for myself and I had an idea of how

I established those goals but after writing it all out I got a better idea of them. What I

would do differently would be diving even further into my Annotated Bibliography. I

thought that it was a very interesting topic and I want to know even more about it. What I

would do the same in my portfolio would be how I planned everything out and completed

different aspects of the portfolio throughout the semester. I would say one thing that I

learned about myself that I didnt know before completing this course would be my love

for writing. I love being able to write out different thoughts and ideas that I have and

convey them in different ways for different readers and audiences.
