Brandt Reading Log

1.
1. In the nineteenth century many jobs in the print shop were taking away by the steam
press. These jobs caused those writers to lose literacy skill.
2. This story shows us how literacy needs to be practiced to be skilled at it.
3.Brandt told this story to get the message across the practicing literacy skills actually
proves to be beneficial.
2.
1. When Brandt say economies in that context. I picture government jobs or desk jobs or
any other job where you have to be able to communicate professionally
2. The connection that Brand is showing us between economies and literacy is that to be
successful in most modern-day jobs you have to be skillful at literacy. Skillful literacy is
a sign of professionalism which is highly sought after in most jobs in todays economy.
3. In todays economy we require literacies that make a person seem more intelligent and
more professional. People in todays economy should gain the literacy skill and connect
that with social viability since most of today jobs revolve around or include
communication,

1. Whenever Ive heard the word sponsor, it was a company or business trying to
advertise themselves by paying somebody to use and promote their products.
2. For the sponsored they gave merchandise and money, and in return the sponsored
advertised their product by just wearing or using it, which caused other people who were
the sponsored fans to buy the product which increased the sponsors revenue.
3.Brandt definition of sponsors is way off because the only reason why they are
sponsoring somebody is because they are good at what they do and have built a fan base
that can be exploited. In Brandts definition, the sponsor is giving the sponsored the
knowledge they need to succeed which is wrong because to be sponsored you must have
already succeeded.
4.
Based on Brandts discussion of sponsorships she believes that the sponsor holds more
power than the sponsored. How encounters with literacy sponsors, especially as they are
configured at the end of the twentieth century, can be sites for the innovative rerouting
this quote from Brandt tells us how the sponsors are innovative and being innovative is
an extremely important part of being successful.
A statistical correlation between high literacy achievement and high socioeconomic,
majority-race status routinely shows up in results of national tests of reading and writing
performance This quote shows how there are actual test that prove her point the being a
sponsor is more beneficial and powerful.
