Ethics and God Response
Euthyphro Dilemma
1. State and explain the two key questions presented by Socrates.
The first question that Socrates presented is, Is something good because the Gods say
so?. This question means that good is arbitrary because each individuals can define good
in different ways. An individual need to have a foundation in order to understand the
meaning of good.

Another question that Socrates also presented is, Do the Gods say so because something
is good?. This question means that good is superior than the Gods because an individual
can become obedient. The individual must follow what the Gods say to them because it is
good.

2. The goal of Socrates dilemma is to try show what about the gods?
The Gods are not worthy to be worship by everyone because the Gods are beneath good.
When the Gods say that good is arbitrary, then they are not worthy to be worship because
an individual must understand the true meaning of good. When the Gods are beneath
good, then they are worthy to be worship because an individual must follow what the
Gods say.

3. How do theists claim to solve this dilemma?

God is good. Good is God. Both, God and good, are equal to each other. A theist would
say that God is either above or below good because God can create and manage the
whole universe.
The Moral Argument for God
1. State the premises for this argument as discussed in class.
If objective moral values exist, then God exist. Objective moral values exist. Therefore,
God exist.

2. Explain premise #1. Why do these concepts (cohere) fit together?

The objective moral values define the meaning of good. The good defines God because
He is a moral agent that creates the moral laws. The individual would God as their point
of reference because of ontological grounding. Ontological grounding means that an
individual want to know where the meaning of good comes from. The meaning of good
comes from God. Once the individual found the meaning of good, the individuals
morality would flow.

3. What is it about premise #1 that the Atheist agrees with?

Objective moral values do not exist, then God does not exist. An atheist would believe in
epistemological grounding because an individual knows that there is a limit that God
cannot do everything for everyone. When an individual is having a problem, he or she
will pray to God to help them. The individual will realize that God cannot help them their
problem because God cannot help everyone at the same time.

4. What are the two main points of evidence for the existence of objective moral
values/duties?
The first evidence for the existence of objective moral values are experiences. An
individual must experience physical and moral laws. Physical law is when an individual
gets hurt by the physical world such as tripping over a rock. Moral law is when a person
is being unfair with another person such as stealing a phone from someone. Both physical
and moral laws can hurt an individual because the individual might think that the world is
being unfair to them. The negative experiences that an individual had encountered would
think the God is not helping them because they think that God has all the answers to
solve their problems in life.

Another evidence for the existence of objective moral values is that an individual live
with an assumption that they are a moral agent. The individual assume that he or she a
moral agent. The moral agent assumes that they have values and the good life. However,
the assumption of moral agent will lead to a conflict resolution because the individual
decides what their moral are.
The Problem of Evil Argument
1. State the premises for this argument as discussed in class.
God is all powerful he is all able. God is all loving he is all willing. Evil exist in the
world. Therefore, God does not exist.

2. Explain why, according to the atheist, that premises #1 and #2 are in opposition to
premise #3.
An atheist thinks that God is not powerful because he cannot help everyone with their
problems. God either protects or not protects each individual when they need him. When
an individual is in a predicament, he or she will pray to God to help them. When an
individual is settled with their predicament, they believe that God help them. However,
when another individual is not settled with their predicament, they believe that God did
not help them. Which make them think that God cannot help them with all their
problems.

An atheist thinks that God is not loving because he cannot be something at the same time.
God is known for creating the universe and strong for helping everyone. An atheist does
not believe that He cannot create and be strong at the same time because He has limited
power to do the things he needed to do. God needs to pick between moral evil and free
will. If God chooses moral evil, then an individual would more likely to choose to hurt
another individual. If God chooses free will, then an individual would have the option to
be good or bad. Therefore, God wants everyone to choose their own path in order to find
the true meaning of good.

An atheist thinks that evil exist in the world because God is not powerful and not loving.
The atheist proves that evil exist in the world because of physical and moral laws.
Physical and moral laws are defined by an individuals negative experiences. Physical
law is when an individual gets hurt from physical world such as getting punch on the
stomach. Moral law is when an individual gets hurt from another person such as stealing
money from them. People are exposed to physical and moral laws in their everyday life.
These laws prove that evil exist because God cannot help everyone with their problems.

3. Describe a theistic response to this problem of evil argument.

A theist would think that God makes people choose between moral evil and free will. If
an individual choose moral evil, then the individual is more likely to hurt another
individual. If an individual choose free will, then the individual would have the option to
be good or bad. Therefore, we are to be blame for creating evil to exist in this world. God
wants everyone to choose their own path if they want to be good or evil in this world.
