Appropriateness for chosen style

Adobe flash
Adobe flash professional cc 2015 formally called Shockwave Flash) is a multimedia
software platform for production of animations, browser games, rich Internet
applications, desktop applications, mobile applications and mobile games. Flash
displays text, vector graphics and raster graphics to provide animations, video
games and applications. It allows streaming of audio and video, and can capture
mouse, keyboard, microphone and camera input.
Flash allows the user to create a vector and raster graphics such as animation of
text, drawings along with still images and also enabling the use of streaming audio,
video and capturing move, keyboard, microphone and camera input. The creator
moving specific joints within the drawn graphics to create movement can also create
animation via flash.

Alternative available chosen styles: stop frame

Technique

Stop motion also known as stop frames. stop-motion when used as an adjective) is
an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it appears to
move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually
photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is
played as a fast sequence. Dolls with movable joints or clay figures are often used in
stop motion for their ease of repositioning. Stop motion animation using plasticine is
called clay animation or "clay-motion". Not all stop motion requires figures or
models; many stop motion films can involve using humans, household appliances
and other things for comedic effect. Stop motion using objects is sometimes referred
to as object animation.
The most common objective used in stop motion are dolls that have moveable joints
or clay figures for ease of repositioning as well as using plasticine this is called clay-
motion. However not all stop frame requires dolls, also humans can participate as
well as other objects, e.g. household appliances. One of the biggest problems with
stop frame is the fact that it is very time consuming process as to create a 30- 40-
minuet episode this could require several weeks- to a month depending on the script
to create. Using stop frame I will need to produce a frame by frame example of what
I want my final 2 D animation to look like. My animation needs to be 30 seconds long
and suitable for children. I will be creating it using Adobe Flash CC. There are also
other ways of creating an animation however they are not appropriate for me to use
such as flipbook as this is ideal for a 1-2 second long animation however for a 30
second animation this will require a lot of paper and also alot of single handily drawn
characters.
Suitability for Resources Available

When it comes to the production, I will need to use specific resources and assets that
I will put together to create my 30 second animation. This means that I will need to
create/ collect assets and compose them using the following software:

Adobe Audition
Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) is a digital audio
workstation from Adobe Systems featuring both a multitrack, non-
destructive mix/edit environment and a destructive-approach
waveform editing view.
I will be using Adobe Audition to edit my audio this includes any
other sound clips that I may want to include within my animation. This software also
allows me to mix audio and change the pitch to high or low depending on what I
want my audio to sound like. This software is most covenant, as I will be adding
audio to my animation, as this will add to the visual and audio experience of my
animation.

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and
published by Adobe Systems. Seen as I will be using flash to put
my animation together I will be needing to use another form of
software so that I am able to create my graphics and then be
imported into the software that I am later using. Photoshop is
something that I have past experience with and allows me to do many different
things within the software.
These are the different software programmes that I will be using and they are most
fitting and suitable for what it is that I want to achieve with my 2D animation. I will
be using software from the Adobe collection as it allows easy collaboration between
softwares.
Healthy Eating research
What is healthy eating?
Healthy eating means consuming the right quantities of foods from all food groups in
order to lead a healthy life. Diet is often referred to as some dietary regimen for
losing weight. However, diet simply means what food we eat in the course of a 24-
hour, one week, or one month, etc. period. A good diet is a nutritional lifestyle that
promotes good health. A good diet must include several food groups because one
single group cannot provide everything a human needs for good health.
Research campaigns already produced

5 A Day
5 A Day is any of various national
campaigns in countries such as the United
States, the United Kingdom and Germany,
to encourage the consumption of at least
five portions of fruit and vegetables each
day, following a recommendation by the
World Health Organization that individuals
consume "a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables per day (excluding potatoes
and other starchy tubers).

Fruit and vegetables are part of a healthy, balanced diet and can help us
stay healthy. It is important that we eat enough of them.
Evidence shows there are significant health benefits to getting at least five 80g
portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day. That is five portions of fruit
and veg in total, not five portions of each.
The 5 A DAY campaign is based on advice from the World Health Organization,
which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day to lower
the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers.

The Eat Well Guide
The Eatwell Guide is a
policy tool used to define
government
recommendations on
eating healthily and
achieving a balanced diet.

The Eatwell Guide

shows how much of
what we eat overall
should come from
each food group to
achieve a healthy,
balanced diet.
You do not need to achieve
this balance with every
meal but try to get the
balance right over a day or even a week. The Eatwell Guide divides the foods we eat
and drink into five main food groups. Try to choose a variety of different foods from
each of the groups to help you get the wide range of nutrients your body needs to
stay healthy. It's important to get some fat in your diet, but foods that are high in fat,
salt and sugar have been placed outside of the circular image as they are not
necessary as part of a healthy balanced diet and most of us need to cut down on
these. Unsaturated fats from plant sources, for example vegetable oil or olive oil,
are healthier types of fat. But all types of fat are high in energy (calories) and so
should only be eaten in small amounts. On average, women should have around
2,000 calories a day (8,400 kilojoules) and men should have around 2,500 calories a
day (10,500 kilojoules). Most adults are consuming more calories than they need.
Find out how food labels can help you to choose between foods and to pick those
that are lower in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt.

Many different websites allow you to look up about
healthy eating along with advising what to do and how to
do it. There are things such as guides online that re there
to help with how you can live a healthy lifestyle and what
foods to eat. Some healthy eating campaigns advertise
different ways such as change 4 life by using online and
television advertisements. All of the advertisements and
anything to do with the change 4-life campaign is colourful and is seen as attractive
to young children. It also helps to advice adults what they should be getting their
children to eat. The adverts are colourful and attract the younger children. The
characters that are also used within the adverts were created with children in mind
as all of the characters are involved are colourful and simple. The advert content also
appeals to children as it upbeat and active some of the adverts are actually
interactive.
Proposal
Definition
Audience: target audience is the intended audience or
readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message.
In marketing and advertising, it is a particular group of
consumers within the predetermined target market, identified
as the targets or recipients for a particular advertisement or
message.[1] Businesses that have a wide target market will focus on a specific target
audience for certain messages to send, such as The Body Shops Mothers Day
advertisements, which were aimed at the children and spouses of women, rather
than the whole market which would have included the women themselves. A target
audience is formed from the same factors as a target market, but it is more specific,
and is susceptible to influence from other factors. An example of this was the
marketing of the USDAs food guide, which was looking to appeal to the age range of
2-18 year olds. The factors they had to consider outside of the standard marketing
mix, were things such as the nutritional needs of growing children, children's
knowledge and attitudes regarding nutrition and other specialized detail. This
reduced their target market and provided a specific target audience they could focus
on. Common factors for target audiences can be reducing the target market to
specifics such as men aged 20-30 years old, living in Auckland, New Zealand rather
than men aged 20-30 years old. However, just because a target audience is
specialized does not mean the message being delivered will not be of interest and
received by those outside the intended demographic. Failures, however, of targeting
a specific audience are also possible, and occur when information is incorrectly
conveyed. Side effects such as a campaign backfire and demerit goods are common
consequences of a failed campaign.
The age range that I will be looking at is 5-11 year olds and there will be no specific
gender to my animation. The basic interest of the animation will be food.

Viewing context
My animation will be made to be shown on Tv and hopefully further developed to go
on to be bigger and a more branded animation this can mean the animation can go
on to bigger things and hopefully the name will become more branded but for now
the animation will be an advertisement to encourage healthy eating

Characters
All 2D animations have characters of some kind; these characters can range from
unrealistic, non-fiction characters to realistic, fictional characters. The characters in
any form of entertainment. The audience must connect with the characters on an
emotional level. For this to be the audience needs to be able to relate to the
characters whether it be the actions that they do or the situation that they are put
in. this can also be done with children by the character inspiring them. This is why
with my own characters I have two good healthy fruits that are positive and happy to
help children indicate the good and bad between the fruit and the slice of pizza hens
why the pizza
looks more
negative and
things such as
the audio will
be different as
the fruits will
be positive
and this will be
heard in there
tone of voice. I
do go into
more detail
about this on my storyboards that are below
Pop The Pineapple: cheeky and bubbly helping children to make the right decision
between good and bad foods.
ACE The Apple: a good guy encouraging children to eat fruit and vegetables

Big Frank: the

bad guy.
Unhealthy and negative

Storylines
A story's plot is what happens in the story and the order it happens in. For there to
be story, something has to move, to change. Something goes from point A to point B.
This change could be:
A physical event (Point A = psycho killer is picking off everyone in town. Point
B = police arrest the killer).
A decision (Point A = character wants to practice law like his father. Point B =
character decides to be a ballet dancer).
A change in a relationship (Point A = they hate each other. Point B = They fall
in love)
A change in a person (Point A = character is a selfish jerk. Point B = character
has learned to be less of a selfish jerk.)
A change in the reader understands of a situation. (Point A = character
appears to be a murderer. Point B = the reader realizes that character is
actually innocent and made a false confession.)
This change could even be the realization that nothing will ever change. (Point
A = your character dreams of escaping her small town. Point B = her dream
escape is shown to be a hopeless.)
The storyline needs to be interesting, engaging, and fitting to the assignment brief
that also need to make sense within the 30 seconds that I have to get my point
across about healthy eating. The storyline also needs to fil in with the assignment
brief that is it needs to promote healthy eating to young children. Thought each
episode nothing can be seen or come across as obscene or inappropriate.

Backgrounds
The background needs to be appropriate to the
story and the setting. Once again, the
background needs to be appropriate for the
storyline and the audience an example of this
that I am using is SpongeBob to the left is what
the background for SpongeBob looks like as you
can see it is fitting with the animation and also
fits in with the characters that have been created
for the animation and the age range of the animation and seen as SpongeBob is set
underwater it makes sense for the background to be an underwater.
So therefore for my background as it is going
to fit in with the setting and storyline I will be
using a kitchen counter as my background as
my characters that are foods are something
that you will find in a kitchen and it being a
cartoon kitchen will make it more appropriate
and fitting seen as I am doing a 2 D animation.
To the right is an example of what my
background will mostly look like as this is most
fitting with that I want and what is appropriate
for my animation.

Scenario/ Storylines
My given scenario: The BBC is looking for a young animator to join a large production
team and produce a 30-second animation, using flash for a public service campaign
aimed at encouraging primary school children to eat more fruit and vegetables (5-11
year olds)
My storyline is going to be big frank the pizza is going to make the audience think he
is good by calming his raspy voice and making it seem as if he is good however
when pop and ace come along laughing and giggling they realise something isnt
right and convince the audience that big frank is lying and in fact you shouldnt eat
foods like big frank but however should be eating foods like pop the pineapple and
ace the apple that are good for you.

My Age
With animations, the age can depend on the demographic
and the style of the animation as the animation will be
tailored to different ages. Animations studios such as Walt
Disney create animation for a wide age range of children
aged 5-11 years of age and this is a running theme that is
kept constant is the age of which the animations are
aimed at. Focusing on the age range is especially
important when it comes to the development and
designing of characters, as they need to be vivid in colour
and able to keep children interested this is also, where
audio is important as I need to keep the children engaged
thought my 30-second animation.

Gender
I will not be focusing on either one or the other
genders. This means that I am going to make my
own animation neutral and not lean to either on or
the other I am just going to be keeping the
storyline to what the brief wants that is to
encourage primary school children to eat more
fruit and vegetables to make sure that it Is aimed
at both genders within my animation Im not
going to include anything that may sway towards
one or the other like including extremely girly
character or including extremely boyish character. Both of the good characters are
going to be appealing to both boys and girls by being bright and colourful as well as
happy and positive.

Interests and tastes

I need to make my animation suitable for both boys and girls and this means that I
will need to have a variety of interests that are not just suitable for boys and girls but
also that are natural. An example of this is that if my animation was based on
football it is very likely that little girls who like Barbie will not be interested in that
animation and this is the same for if the animation was all pink and about princesses
this wouldnt interest boys so to make sure that this doesnt happen I will be using a
natural situation. This is why I have chosen to just include my characters with a
simple background to prevent the stereotyping of genders. So therefore, my
animation is only going to include my three characters talking about healthy and
unhealthy foods.
Audio
The audio is what is going to engage the young children and help them to
understand what it going on in the animation see and my animation is aimed at 5 to
11 year olds there will be mainly talking and no reading thought my animation.
Therefore, I need to make sure that the audio is very interactive with children I will
be doing this by changing the pitched of the voice and showing excessive emotion
through speech as this is going to be the easier way to keep the audience engaged
along with the look of the characters. This means that I will mainly be using voice
over and possibly, a little bit of narrative if it is needed. A good example of how I
want my audio to turn out like is the tweenies this is a prime examples of multiple
expressions and also emotional exaggeration when the characters are speaking
although this isnt an animated in the way that I am doing my animation I think that
it is a really good example of what my audio needs to sound like to engage the
audience.

Script
The scene will start with big frank facing the camera

Big Frank: If you want to be big and tough, you need to eat more foods like me.
Gives camera a sly look
Hear POP and ACE giggling in the background

POP: ay up what do we have here?

ACE: Ugh Big Frank you better not be telling everyone to eat more foods like you
POP and ACE both screw up their faces in discussed

Big Frank: what everyone loves me (laughs hysterically)

POP: That may be so but youre way to unhealthy
Big Frank looks offended

ACE: yeah exactly youre the type of food that makes it hard to run around outside
and be

POP: eat more fruits and vegetables and be more happy and healthy
POP and ACE both look at the camera smiling.
Credits roll up

Working within technical limitations

Of course the college is limited to the software that I am able to use to create my
animation however my skills are also limited to try and help me develop my skills
further I will be using 3 sessions to just work with the software that I will be using.
However scene as I have used flash before I do know the basics and this is going to
make things easier and also keeping my technique limitation in mind this is why I
have kept my animation simple so that I am able to actually create what I want along
with make it look like what I am planning it to.
