WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?


Human trafficking is a growing crime in which
North Carolina ranks 8th out of 50 states in
human trafficking activity.
It is a form of modern day slavery where people
profit from the control and exploitation of others
for commercial sex or labor purposes.
Since the start of 2017, there have already been
181 cases reported in North Carolina alone.

FACTORS THAT LEAD TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING


Lack of education and awareness in the general public
Victims have little to no knowledge of alternatives and resources
available
Lack of acceptable consequences for offenders
Lack of follow up programs and effective counseling for victims
Trafficking situations going un-noticed by law enforcement and
community members
