17 Free Write: English 101

Last semester in English 101, I learned about more about grammar, and to develop
extensive writing skills. I also learned how to apply the two to the world around me.

1.17.17 Free write: What does Martin Luther King Day mean to you?
Martin Luther King Day, to me, is a time of celebration and reflection. It is day set
aside to honor an American hero who gave his life in service of all people. I like to
reflect on the fact that the a person who at one time was one of the most hated and
controversial in the country now has his own national holiday.

1.19.17 - Free write: Political Cartoon

This political cartoon depicts promises politicians or government officials give to the
American people that they either cant or wont deliver. Which leads to people who
were promised these things were little to nothing to have or hope for. This cartoon is
relevant to promises our president-elect had given throughout his campaign that
may or may not come to fruition.
1.26.17 - Free Write: Favorite type of movie
I love all types of movies in general, but I think my favorite type are action movies. I
especially like those thriller kinds of movies that keep you guessing until the very
end. I like trying to figure out who the bad guys are, or what their motives would be.

1.30.17 Favorite Speaker.

A speaker that I really like is former President Barack Obama. He speaks with such
poise and intelligence that he keeps me engaged in his speeches. He also phrases
things in a way that allows people to understand him, without making it seem like
hes talking down to his audience.

2.14.17 Free Write: Grammar

I believe that I was taught grammar pretty well over the course of my schooling.
Ive had teachers in the past refresh my memory on certain aspects of grammar
that I may have forgot overtime. However for the most part I minor grammatical
mistake here and there that is usually easily corrected.

What was the determining factor in either candidates run that either lost or won
them the presidency?

2.23.17 Free Write: Describe one secondary source you found.

One secondary source I found was an article on the electoral college and how it
affected this past election. The research question I think it may be able to answer is
if the popular vote should hold weight in a presidential election?

4.14.17 Free Write: What grade would you give this public service announcement?
Why
I give this PSA a B. I was able to understand the message of her video and the
visuals were nicely edited together. However, the representation of her subject
matter was a bit biased. I didnt like how she portrayed the bad side with people
of color and people of colors struggles. However, the good side was of majority
happy white people. I dont think this was done on purpose but the creator should
be more cautious.
