I. OBJECTIVES
1. To appreciate the use of software and computer applications, specifically MS Excel in
solving and analyzing statistical problems.
2. To demonstrate the skills required to perform statistical evaluation through MS Excel.
3. To identify different statistical techniques that can be solved in MS Excel.
4. To be able to construct graphical displays to show variation.
5. To be able to interpret and describe the variation as illustrated in the graphical displays.
II. PROBLEMS
1. A startup companys ability to gain funding is a key to success. The funds raised
(in millions of dollars) by 50 startup companies appear in Table 1 (The Wallstreet
Journal, March 10, 2011).

The mean is the average of the data, which is the sum of all the
observations divided by the number of observations. The total (sum)
fund raised in millions by Startup Company is $4072 millions divided
by the number of funds we will be able to get an average of $81.44
million. We can use the mean to describe the sample of a single value
that will represents the center of the given data. The midpoint of the
given data of the Startup company is 66 which is the point at which
half of the observations are above the value and half of the
observations are below the value. The smallest raised fund is $18
million and we can use it to identify possible outlier. The mode is 54
which is the value that occurs frequently, the data is a Unimodal
because theres only a one mode that occurs frequently. Theres a
greater dispersion between data because of the range 254. For our
Standard deviation of 50 it tells us that our range from the lowest and
highest data is not narrow.

c.)
The data in the following graph are left-skewed. Most of the sample values are clustered on the
left side of the histogram. As shown in the figure there's an outlier in the data. The distribution fit
for the data is poor because its shows that the data is far from each other.
d.)
Most of the funds tends to the right, it means that theres an outlier. The range starts from 18 up
to 272. The box plot represents that we have a distribution of a positive skewed.

IV. CONCLUSION
I therefore conclude that minitab is much flexible than using excel in computing for the
descriptive analysis, histogram, stem-leaf plot and box plot but theres a pros in using excel
because we can practice and improve our skills that we can use once we graduate and start
working in the industry.
I. OBJECTIVES
1. To appreciate the use of software and computer applications, specifically MS Excel in
solving and analyzing statistical problems.
2. To demonstrate the skills required to perform statistical evaluation through MS Excel.
3. To identify different statistical techniques that can be solved in MS Excel.
II. PROBLEMS
Solve the following problems. Present the solution using PrintScreen and paste it in MS Word
document. Discuss briefly the answers.
1. It is claimed that a new diet will reduce a person's weight by 4.5 kilograms, on average,
in a period of 2 weeks. The weights of 10 women who followed this diet were recorded
before and after a 2-week period yielding the following data:
Weight
Woman Weight After
Before
1 58.5 60.0
2 60.3 54.9
3 61.7 58.1
4 69.0 62.1
5 64.0 58.5
6 62.6 59.9
7 56.7 54.4
At the 8 63.6 60.2 0.05 level of
significance to 9 68.2 62.3 test the hypothesis
that the diet reduces the median

weight by 4.5 kilograms against the alternative hypothesis that the median difference in
weight is less than 4.5 kilograms.
2. A machine is used to fill containers with a liquid product. Fill volume can be assumed to
be normally distributed. A random sample of 10 containers is selected, and the net
contents (oz) are as follows:
12.03, 12.01, 12.04, 12.02, 12.05, 11.98, 11.96, 12.02, 12.05, and 11.99.
Suppose that the manufacturer wants to be sure that the mean net contents exceeds 12
oz. What conclusions can be drawn from the data (use = 0.01)?
3. Two quality control technicians measured the surface finish of a metal part, obtaining the
data in Table 4E.1. Assume that the measurements are normally distributed. Test the
hypothesis that the mean surface finish measurements made by the two technicians are
equal. Use and assume equal variances.

I used the t-test: paired two sample for means because the given problem dictates that theres a
difference to be computed in weight. So for this problem I will be able to come up with the
answer that:
Test if:
H1:1not=2
0.002not=0.05
Reject H0; Accept H1 because the calculated P-value is less than 0.05
Median difference in weight is less than 4.5 kg

I used the t-test: two-sample assuming unequal variances because in the problem the variances
are not given and the t-test: two sample assuming unequal variances is use if population is
normal and less than 30. For this problem the:
Test is:
H1:1not=2
3.25>1.57

For this problem I used the t-test: two sample assuming equal variances because theres a
comparison between two data and the problem dictates that we use and assume that the
variances is equal so I come up with:
Test if:
H0: 1=2
H1:1not=2
0.917>0.05
Accept Ho;Reject H1
There's not sufficient evidence of a difference between measurements obtained by two
technicians.

As we can see in our data for the regression analysis that our Muliple R is 0.90 which tells us
that theres no relationship at all of break horsepower in terms of number, road octane and
compression. 80.70% of our data fit the model. If the coefficient is larger compared to the
standard error, then the coefficient is different from 0. The equation of the line as we can see in
the regression analysis consist of the constant coefficient value then the coefficient value of
number, road octane and compression.

H0: 1=2=3=4
H1: at least one mean is different
2.654<2.866
Accept H0;Reject H1
There's no significance difference between the four groups
The p-value of 0.06 is greater than the significance level of 0.05, we do not have enough
evidence to reject the null hypothesis that the population means are all equal. The means of
Nicotin content of A, B, C, D are different.
IV. CONCLUSION
I therefore conclude that by using excel in solving for the regression analysis and anova
compare to the minitab that minitab have cons like that theres a limit in choosing what approach
or solver to use to solve the problem. In comparison the excel will not give interpretation of the
reuslt unlike in minitab.
