Lesson Title: Australian Education System, Map and Economy

Time Needed: 15 minutes

Standard:

Global Perspectives in U.S. History II build an understanding of multiple


perspectives and global interdependence.
USH2.5.1.1 Compare competing belief systems of the 20th century, including
capitalism, communism, imperialism, totalitarianism, isolationism, and
internationalism.
9-12.USH2.5.1.2 Trace the major foreign policy positions that have
characterized the United States relations with the world in the 20th century.
9-12.USH2.5.1.3 Explain the significance of principal events in the United
States relations

Objectives: Investigate Australias education system, culture, economy and geography.

Students will be able to: Understand the education system of Australia not limiting to;

PISA scores, teacher education, school types, special education, and languages studied

and spoken. Foreign Exchange Student policy. Culture and Etiquette. Australias

strengths, landmarks, economy, religion, laws, and relationship with the United States.

Materials Needed: labeled and non-labeled map of Australia, Shrine language handout.

Discussion of Power Point: (10 minutes) Discuss the following information about

Australia; PISA Scores, Education system, Teacher Education, Culture, Languages,

Strengths, Population, Etiquette, International Student, Political & Economic systems in

relation to USA and Australia.

Activity: (5 minutes) decode Shrine language for fun. Australian labeled state map.
