1. What was the role of Muhammad in the spread of Islam? Muhammad was
the one who received the messages from angle Gabriel and he started the
spread of islam.

pillars of faith believe in Allah.
3. What major developments occurred under the Umayyads and Abbasids?
Umayyads
1) the Umayyads built the dome of the rock.
2) They set up an international postal system using riders on horseback. Abbasids
1) they introduced Persian art, literature, philosophy and medicine into the Islamic world.
2) they developed a large and famous university called Bayt AL-Hikmah which meant house
of wisdom. scholars traveled from far areas to study here.
4. List the items traded in the Arab Empire and where they came from. The
main, and most profitable,commodity was slaves. They came from everywhere the Arabs had
conquered.

5. What were the basic characteristics of Islamic society? To enjoy the good ,
to forbid the evil , to have faith for allah , brotherhood.
6. What was the House of Wisdom? was a major intellectual center during the Islamic
Golden Age.
7. How did the harsh environment of Arabia shape political and economic
life? The strict & rigid beliefs of Arabia influenced how and to what extent citizens
could voice their political and economic opinions.
8. Who were the caliphs and how did they administer their empire? Caliphs were
successors of Muhammad as spiritual and temporary
leader of the Muslims. They administered the empire by keeping
everyone in line.
9. What are the main differences between the Shiites and the Sunnis? The
group now known as Sunnis chose Abu Bakr, the prophet's adviser, to become the first successor, or caliph,
to lead the Muslim state.Shiites favored Ali, Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law. Ali and his successors are
called imams, who not only lead the Shiites but are considered to be descendants of Muhammad.
10. Compare and Contrast the Islamic religion to Christianity? They have five
pillars of faith that are similar to Christianity 10 commandments.
