RE: Expectations Memo

I excelled academically higher than a lot of my peers throughout my high school career. I still did
not manage to get the grades that I wanted since I always had difficulty managing my time. I
would end up forgetting about an assignment or studying for a test that I would have the next
day. I also had difficulty focusing on one particular topic which will lead me to either multitasking
or getting distracted with something else. Over these past couple of years, I have managed to
overcome this obstacle by putting everything on a schedule. I believe it was more of a mental
barrier that hindered my success. If I have something on a schedule I feel I have to do it.

Time management was a skill that I have struggled with for many years. It was not until the
beginning of my senior year of high school when I was able to successfully and efficiently
manage my time. I have a schedule where I put when to do an assignment, when to study,
when to relax, and even when to eat. This helps with my time management and also with
keeping focused on what I need to do.

I prefer working in a team since that that is where everyone can put in some input and fill where
people have holes. If people are unclear on something, working in a team greatly helps in
bringing in clarity where as if you are working individually, you will have to figure out problems
yourself which is more time consuming. As quoted by John C. Maxwell, Teamwork makes the
dream work, but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad
team.

My understanding of the amount of writing required for engineering changed slightly since I took
classes on engineering in high school and we did quite a bit of writing there. As a XLIX intern,
there is more writing than what I did I got a new insight on what it takes to be an engineer. It is
not just paper and pencil writing, but also electronic communications such as emails, need to be
clear in order to get your message across.

I have neither given nor received any unauthorized help on this assignment, nor witnessed any
violation of the UNC Charlotte Code of Academic Integrity.
