Simon Bolivar

Simon Bolivar was a military and political leader who was born on the twenty fourth of July

1783 in Caracas New Granada, (which is now Venezuela). He was luckily born into a wealthy

family who owned gold mines in Venezuela. Colonel Juan Vicente Bolvar y Ponte Concepcin

Palacios Blanco were his parents. He also had two older sisters and a brother. Sadly, before

Simons third birthday he lost his father in January of 1786. Due to his father passing away, his

mother was in charge of his education and she sent him to Spain where most wealthy children

went for school.

Unfortunately his mother died during his time when he was back in Caracas Venezuela after

his education. After his mother died Simon decided to move to Spain. When he was there he

devoted his life to studies and learned about military and world affairs. While he was in Spain he

met Teresa Rodriguez and fell in love with her. On May twenty sixth, 1802 he married Teresa.

Sadly, right after their marriage she died in 1803 due to yellow fever. After losing his wife he

moved back to Europe in 1804 to Paris France. When he was in Europe he traveled and met with

many well educated scholars. Due, to meeting many intelligent people and educating himself on

world affairs he made a pledge to

liberate the South American countries from the Spanish.

On April nineteenth, 1810 the Junta or Declaration Of Independence was written. Simon then

joined the military and eventually rose to the rank of colonel. He fought in the war of Valencia

commanded by Miranda in 1811. Unfortunately, Miranda lost a battle due to treason and was

arrested by the Spanish. Luckily, Simon escaped and traveled to Curacao where he wrote

Memorial to the Citizens of Nueva Granada by a Caraqueno. This writing expressed Simons

political beliefs and what he was to become in the future.

The next part of Simons life is dominated by many battles and wars. He lead a small army

and conquered many places and was known by his comrades as The Liberator. Unfortunately

for Simon, civil war started to break out in Venezuela and he had to resign his command. In the

last part of his life he was a very important figure to Venezuela and with aid from Haiti he

claimed back territories. Sadly, Simon Bolivar lost his life due to tuberculosis on December

seventeenth 1830.

Overall Simon Bolivar had many achievements and accomplishments. First, Bolivia is named

after him. He was a very important military leader for Venezuela and Spain. Also, he was a

major part of the Venezuelan revolution. Next, he led his own small army and is known as The

Liberator by many historians and people. Also he was President of Gran Colombia from 1819 to

1830. Impressively, many scholars study, and know his political beliefs. He is also known for

naming Joseph Bonaparte King in Spain and its colonies. He also was the founder of the

Magdalena Campaign, which was a success. Surprisingly, he won the election for the Supreme

Commander of the Republic of Venezuela. Finally, he played a leading role in the independence

of other South American States.
