4.2 CALCULATION PRINCIPLE

The first calculation verifies that the top slab is adequately reinforced against the tie developed due to
the inclination of web in both service and ultimate states.
The next calculation is to find the reinforcement required to balance the diaphragm against the tie
produced due to Torsional effects.

Then the section of vertical stirrups is calculated.

Then it is verified that the strut is well balanced (stability of the end strut)
The last calculation is to calculate the longitudinal steel area to ensure the equilibrium of the lower
corner.

Calculation Principle (elevation view)

T = Tie in top slab due to web inclination and eccentric bearing position
R = Maximum bearing reaction
= Horizontal force due to torsion
Tu = Torsion moment
TTu = Tie in diaphragm due to torsion
fy= Reinforcement strength
fss= Allowable stress in reinforcement in SLS
Acp =Area of concrete subjected to torsion

4.3.2 Tie Torsion

Graph for tie in diaphragm

The distributed total force is:
Tu
f = MN/m
2 Acp
Then the total force to be transferred into tension and compression will be:
= fL MN

After projection we obtain the oblique force and the required corresponding reinforcement.
