He is the ‘one who repulses the orphan harshly. And does not urge others to feed the destitute. So woe unto those performer of salah; thos who delay salah (from its fixed time). Those who do good deeds only 10 be seen by others. And those who withhold trivial kindness.”(107) A brief Overview Allah Ta’ala reminded the Quraysh of His great favours upon them in the previous two chapters (surah 105/106) and invited them worship the Lord of the Ka’abah as they enjoyed a respectable position due to their relationship to the Ka’abah, Salah and Zakah are the primary forms of worship; hence Allah Ta’ala refers to these devotional practices in this Surah, and condemns them for failing in their duty to Allah. REJECTING THE DAY OF RECOMPENSE, ‘Maulana Muhammad Manzur Nomani (RA) Allah Ta’ala condemns certain individuals among the Quraysh for failing to express gratitude to Him and financially assisting the orphan and the destitute. They became victims to these ills because they disbelieved in the day of judgement. Harsh Treatment to the Orphan and the Needy Allah ‘Ta’ala condemns them for harshly rebuking the orphan child when he secks aid from them. They are also criticized for failing to urge others to feed the destitute ‘Neglectful Musalli From this verse onwards, the address is focused to the believers. Allah ‘Ta’ala warns them against neglecting their Salah, insincerity discharging poor due. and not Neglecting Salah could refer to omitting it completely, or performing it after its allocated time has lapsed, or performing it haphazardly. Such acts incur the wrath of Allah Ta’ala and He has announced the destruction of such individuals. Doing good deeds to please anyone other than Allah is a major sin, It The Light- Apr, May, Jun 2015 Known as Riya; and is tantamount to ascribing a partner unto Allah Ta’ala ‘Ma’oon refers to trivial kindness and favours, which honourable people do not hesitate to do. According to many Sahaba RadiAllahu Anbu, it refers to the minimal poor duc that is ‘obligatory upon wealthy people. Others have said that Ma’oon refers to petty items of daily use, such as salt, sugar, flour, ete Some Mufassirin state that the last three verses are also directed to the polytheists of Makkah. Initially they ‘would perform Salah according to the manner in which Sayyiduna Ibrahim Alayhis Salam performed it, and they ‘would carry out the rituals of Hajj as he did. Over a period, they distorted the true nature of these devotional practices. Instead of performing Salah, they would whistle and clap hands around the Ka’bah as mentioned in Surah A’araaf. Similarly, they were guilty of doing deeds of virtue for name and fame and some of them were misers. In this way, these three evils are associated to them as well. Although, the verses of the Quran Majid were revealed in special instances, its message is general and applicable to all. Muslims guilty of any of the above are also deserving of the anger of Allah Ta’ala. DARKNESS IN THE Waves :AS AND INTERNAL "Or (the unbelievers’ deeds) are like layers of darkness of a fathomless sea which is covered by waves above which are waves above which are clouds, layers of darkness, one upon the other. If he pputs out his hand, he can scarcely see it, ‘Those Allah gives no light to, they have no light at all” (The Qur'an, 24:40) ‘The general environment in deep seas is described in the book named Oceans: ‘The darkness in deep seas and oceans is found around a depth of 200 meters and below. At this depth, there is almost no light, Below a depth of 1000 meters there is no light at all, Today, we know about the general structure of the sea, the characteristics of the living things in it, its salinity, as well as the amount of water it contains, its surface area and depth. Submarines and special equipment, developed with modem technology, enable scientists to obtain this information, Human beings are not able to dive more than 40 meters down without the aid of special equipment. They cannot survive unaided in the deep, dark parts of the oceans, such as at a depth of 200 meters, For these reasons, scientists have only recently been able to discover these detailed pieces of information about seas, However, the statement of "darkness in a deep sea” was used in Sura Nur 1,400 years ago. It is certainly one of the miracles of the Qur'an that such information was given at a time where no equipment to enable man to dive into the depths of the oceans was available. If any one takes up the occupation of learning and teaching the Quran to further worldly ends then he must know what a hadith tells about the likes of him: “He will be among the unfortunate people who will be cast into hell, before everyone else, destined to go there and he will be its initial fuel.” ( Allah! Commentary: The Quran is the ‘word of Allah and His command and constitution for men. To be faithful and obedient to it is to be faithful and obedient to Allah and to tum away from it or show disobedience to it to tum away from Allah and be disobedient to Him. Allah has said that the people who abide by the Quran and hold it as is worthy of it will be raised in this life and the next no matter who these people are as regards descent, colour and language. In contrast the people who disregard it and disobey it will be lowered to the lowest level, even if they be on the highest of levels. The history of Muslim and Islam confirms the truth of this hadith. In fact it reflects these words of Allah as if it was a mirror, The use of the word Agwaman (UIs!) in the hadith discloses that the law of rise and fall as described in this hadith applies not (o individuals alone but to nations. GOLDEN WorDs ‘Declare your jihad on twelve enemies you cannot see -egoism, arrogance, conceit, selfishness, greed, lust, intolerance, anger, lying, cheating, gossiping and slandering. This is an important tum in your child’s life, He or she is going to complete one year studies and is ready to stride towards the next class. At this stage of time, there are many things that should concern parents and the elder family members. Children are the most valuable asset of a family and of a nation. They are to inherit the burden of responsibility to run a home, a society and even a nation. It is not so easy to bring up a child, It takes so much time, energy, understanding and wisdom. If the children are well-handled and well- nourished they are transformed into civilized citizens and bring peace and honour to their family and country. ‘The children at their tender age are more vulnerable to contract physical, moral and spiritual diseases. Therefore, this age is very much significant for them and this increases the responsibility of parents many a fold. It is not so that only children at unhealthy and poor environment develop bad habits and criminal mentality but there are many a heinous and monstrous acts and crimes that are being perpetrated by those who have been nourished even a better and healthful environment ROLE OF TEACHERS Parents and teachers are the best models and ideals for a child Undoubtedly, the first school of a child is his or her mother’s lap. From there he unconsciously is inculcated good and bad habits. With the passage of time these habits grow and gain strength. If the overall development environment for a child is better he is instilled good character, ‘but when the home environment does not offer the necessary support structure then he takes a wrong direction. PARENTS AND Therefore, itis recommended that the environment of a home should be quite healthy in term of morality and The Light- Apr, May, Jun 2015 7 spirituality. The parents should get rid of family conflicts and domestic violence. This is common problem of younger ones in this era, when at the tenderness of his and her age the child witnesses breaking of ties rather than experiencing warmth of love and sympathy. The weakening of the family unit reduces it to be no longer able to function as a support system and to be able to supply the children with a sense of stability. As a reaction to the stress in the environment and lack of parenting skills their physical, moral and spiritual growth is affected. It is the parents who can know their child better. Hence, they should try to evaluate the potentiality and capability of their child and provide him with necessary support. The limits and capabilities of child should neither be underestimated nor overestimated. And, once they are identified correctly should be given full freedom to function properly. Teachers spend so much time with their students; therefore they also play an important part in shaping the life of a child. But, it is a tragic fact of our time that student-teacher relation has been reduced to a commercial level. Teachers shirk their duty of being a role model and avoid treating their students as their children. AVOID GIVING STRESS OR PRESSURE Due to overloaded education system and competitive environment in school and home the children are burdened to perform better beyond their limits and energy. Sometimes, the parents and in many cases school teachers exert a pressure on students to excel, This leaves many harmful consequences upon a child Childhood and adolescence is a time when ordinary levels of stress are heightened by physical, psychological, emotional and social changes. It is no doubt is a universal fact that all fingers are not equal. The children vary in mental power, understanding, vision, taste and natural orientations. In schools and studies some are brilliant and sharp-minded while some are lazy and dull, But, it does ‘not mean that the dull ones are of no use, There is not a minor thing created useless by Allah in this universe so what about a human being! It is our duty to discover the inner abilities hidden in a person and ‘utilize it in the right direction. Some boys or girls may be slow in studies, but they must be having some other qualities that might not exist in their brilliant fellows. So, the task of the teacher and parents is to identify their skill and deal with them The Light- Apr, May, Jun 2015 8 accordingly. Some —_teachers intentionally or unintentionally end up putting a lot of pressure on youngsters. It is due to the unhealthy student schools. Teachers as a result fail to deal with students on an individual basis. Stress and pressure is not necessarily 2 bad thing; it can often push students to a better performance. But, what is needed is a positive parenting and teaching skill that ‘opens communication channels and provides the child a chance to prosper in his or her field. We should not expect from every one the same performance. teacher ratio in Indian ‘The pressure on children to score hhigh should be moderated, both by parents and schools. Because, when they feel like they can’t fulfil their wishes and can't satisfy hopes of parents they tend to adopt escapist measures such as drugs, withdrawal, and even some succumb to the pressures of exams and competition. Suicide among teenagers was a syndrome that was known only with West till recently. But, now our own country India is witnessing an alarming upward trend of suicides among the younger generation, The highest suicide rate in the world has been reported among young women in South India. Suicide is one of the commonest causes of death among young people. Suicide is the sixth leading cause of death among children aged 5-14 years, and the third leading cause of death among all those 15-24 years old. The latest mean worldwide annual rates of suicide per 100 000 were 0.5 for females and 0.9 for males among 5- 14-year-olds, and 12.0 for females and 14.2 for males among 15-24- year-olds, respectively. countries, males outnumber females in youth suicide statistics. Though female teens are much more likely to attempt suicide than males, male teens are four times more likely to actually kill themselves. Therefore, a generous emotional, material and intellectual support is necessary to have a child happy and confident. The lack of support and security breeds confusion and frustration in children. It is important to maintain ‘open lines of communication with children. Parents need to be as open and as attentive as possible to their children’s difficulties and to assure them that they can share their troubles, and gain support in the process. They should be given every ‘opportunity to unburden their troubles and ventilate their feelings. If you are having more than one child then any one of them should never feel that any injustice or inequality is being done against him or her. Girls deal with emotionally ‘compared to boys, who handle their issues aggressively and violently. So they should not feel discouraged, controlled, rejected and abandoned. Do not let him or her unattended, but try to handle them with patience, sympathy and acceptance, and help them develop understanding. issues VACATION PROGRAMME Have you so far thought what programme you have for your child in the ongoing summer vacation? The Muslims whose forefathers made good endeavor for India’s freedom, could not enjoy the booty of their efforts related to independence, rather they were left suffering from inequalities, hatred, poverty, malnutrition, deprivation, illiteracy discrimination, sorrow and grief. So, it is also fact that the personalities who occupied the portfolios of the government and are called the constitutional safeguards do not want to protect them from discrimination and poverty. They exercise their every possible effort to suppress the Muslims politically, economically, socially and. religiously. He is apparently compelled to dwell in slum areas with the feeling of danger and insecurity, Sorrow and grief as well as frustration are writ large upon his forehead and his heart ached for the basic needs of this worldly life. Disparities, unevenness and imbalances are terrified. His destined situations are so cruel to push him back to the rank of poorest of the poor in the society as a whole. It is also a sorrowful matter to say that the Muslim community in general and the Muslim youth in particular are perpetual target and ultimate aim of today’s media which hankers afier not to leave a stone unturned to tatnish the image of Muslims and Islam, in the length and breadth of the world and brand all the Muslim community as terrorist, foreign agent and anti- national, It is clearly saying that this type of inresponsible attitude of today’s media and personalities in power make every individual of the Muslim community ached and panicky. Our brothers and sisters of the Muslim community find themselves unfair and misfit in the society and lag behind their compatriots. The Light- Apr, May, Jun 2015 12 On the other hand, the judicial mechanism in Indian courts has been miserably mournful. Recently, Delhi High Court delivered a verdict to release all 19 accused, allegedly involved in the grievous murder of 40 Muslim youths in Hashimpura, Meerut, UP in 1987 during the communal riots, Alas to Justice! Alas for the Court order! This is the Indian judiciary system where Indian Muslim places his trust with no doubt. The Muslims listen to this sort of decree that is an infamy on the forehead of this great nation. Afzal Guru may be sentenced to death but the murderers of Hashimpura can't be jailed. What a worst kind of justice! Justice itself cries for justice. Some people say thatthe educational backwardness of Muslims is the root cause of all these woes and sufferings. The whole society is to be blamed to this regard, but the fact hereby lies otherwise. That is: the Muslim ‘would certainly be treated according tw his deeds, be it bad or good. Siac We must rectify and reform ‘our life and act upon the traditions of our prophet Muhammad tt Unfortunately our Ulema who were rather expected to serve as conscience Keepers of the community asa whole, are miserably busy in their private enterprises, running activities like Madrasas and other traditional organizations for their vested interests. They do not want to come on high level and give up the selfish activities that has become stigma on. the head of Islam and Muslim community. They must come forward to enlighten their hearts with the teachings of Islam and give up selfishness and water the sapling of Muslim community to flourish, as the MMEC in Mumbai and. its branches as well as Dell course in Jamia Akkalkuwa started doing for the sake of uplift of Muslim community's Ulema. In this way the Muslim will clearly realize the significance of social integration with due regard to his religious and cultural identity. They have to be well aware of their Islamic thoughts and tenets and come to know that their creed stands to be one creed. In this way, in the long run they would be really united by adhering to the rope of Allah. May Allah 2% guide us the right path in all shperes of life and grant us paradise in the life to come! Ameen Beautiful Line “Language is the key to the heart of people.” (Ahmed Deedat) The Light- Apr, May, Jun 2015 13 Seerah Inspiratio MUHAMMAD yk, THE MOST OPPRESSED ONE IN THE WORLD It has been regular practice of unbelievers from the time immemorial about the Prophet 2 to be the force user regarding the rapid spread of Islam, Today’s most advanced and staunchest media too is distorting the clean and modest image of the Prophet 4%. While the matter of fact is he never used the force of sword to unwillingly convert people to Islam when it is quite contrary to the messengerhood of the Prophet 295 as the Qur'an vigorously speaks about him: celal daa Yi alibi Ley “And We have not sent you but as merey for all the words."(Surah Al- Anbiya 21:106) and to the key principle of the propagation of Islam as the Qur'an emphatically speaks: Gall 01,81 “There is no compulsion in faith.”(Surah Al-Bagarah 2: 255) He, therefore, is neither force user nor is he oppressor. In contrast to it, he was targeted from all sides and his blood was considered (o be lawful by the pagans of Makkah, His own people splited every sort of relationship with him (pbuh) and he was socially and economically fully boyeotted by them.
