PROPOSITION: Technology is becoming prevalent in the world today.

In the
not too distant future, technology will completely replace the teacher in the
classroom.
PROMPT: To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The pace of technological innovation and change seems to have gone
through a time warp in the last years and decades, where improvements
have been fast-tracked exponentially. Because of this, people are now quite
able to envision what the future classroom will be, wherein computers may
realistically replace the teacher in the classroom. This claim is indeed not
only controversial but likewise alarming, necessitating an objective analysis
of its feasibility and possibility.
Indeed, as cited earlier, the rapid pace of technological progress may just
produce artificial intelligence in as little as a decade. With such, computers
will therefore have approximate or greater intelligence as the teacher,
making it fully possible for teachers to eventually see their profession turn
obsolete. Apart from this, computers do not experience fatigue, they do not
demand day-offs or vacation leaves, they do not require salaries, nor
benefits, they are not prone to corruption where students may pay fees for a
grade, and they have the power of the internet that is vastly superior to what
any human being may possess. This results in an uninterrupted and highly
intelligent learning experience.
However, quite realistically, even with perfected AI, it may not be possible for
a humanoid to replicate mans distinct emotion and levels of sensitivity,
sympathy and empathy. Computers are known to be cold and void of
emotions. With this, students may find learning either fully impersonal,
insensitive, inconsiderate, or plain and simply boring. Clearly, there are
human traits that computers cannot match.
Given all these, combining the intelligence of computers plus the heart of
humanity may provide tomorrows students with a classroom experience that
has never been realized in the past. Not only will learning become fully
accurate, comprehensive, detailed and authoritative, but with the human
teacher on board as well, there will be the humanism injected amidst all the
hard data. This writer therefore feels that the future classroom will see a
convergence of human and computing technology, and not a complete
replacement of the teacher.

any potential harm to children.
