2. Using the MDA-DSP KIT IDE

2.Using the MDA- DSP KIT IDE

The chapter introduces you to the Integrated Development

Environment, telling you how to use it, and what it can do
for use.

WinIDE DSP can execute the assemble/compile in on screen

of Windows by making a source file( assembly language or C
language), is further linked to the MDA DSP kit to have all of
the RAM block and Memory Mapped Register ) of the MDA
DSP kit displayed on one screen, and can process the program
execution and single steps of the downloaded file with the
MDA DSP kit.
WinIDE DSP is to simply process all the jobs by simly
pressing the corresponding function keys in Windows 98SE/XP.
2. Using the MDA-DSP KIT IDE

The WinIDE DSP CD-ROM provided by Midas Engineering

is the CD-ROM only to use the MDA DSP kit, and the
minimum conditions and installation procedures are as follows.
The minimum requirements.
Processor : PC based on the Pentium processor( 166MHz
or higher )
Operating System : Microsoft Window 98SE/XP.
Hard disk, VGA monitor, Serial port, mouse
CD-Rom driver.

The installation procedure.

The basic installation procedure is described below.
Double-click "My Computer" after inserting the WinIDE
DSP CD into the user's CD-ROM. (AUTO RUN was not
executed with the CD inserted into the CD-ROM ).
Double-click Setup.exe by reading the contents of the
user's CD-ROM driver.
Read the license agreement and click "Next" if you agree
with the agreement.
The installation progress status of WinIDE DSP is
displayed.
If the installation is successful, the execution file of
WinIDE DSP is created in the MIDAS folder, and the
installation has been successfully done.
2. Using the MDA-DSP KIT IDE

The MDA-DSP IDE basic operation procedure is described

below.
Connect your RS-232 cable to either communication
port1 or port2 on your PC. The Fig. 2-1 is shown .

Fig. 2-1 PC - MDA-DSP RS-232C connection

Turn your MDA-DSP kit power on. The LCD display the
following message.

If the LCD does not display this message, follow the

steps below.
Move the T1 switch to the PC marking. The T1 is
located to the up-right part of the keyboard(marking

Push the RES(reset) switch.

To execute the program by going to Start -> All

Programs -> MIDAS -> WinDSP, or Double-click
WinDSP.exe from the folder that you installed.

The WinDSP will try to connect to MDA-DSP kit.

After a few moments, the WinIDE logo screen is

displayed.
2. Using the MDA-DSP KIT IDE

If the connection of your PC's and MDA-DSP kit correct,

the main screen will be displayed.

If you don't see the main screen, choose communication

port.

2-3-1 WinIDE DSP windows

A user has to fully know about the structure and operating
instructions of the WinIDE DSP program to correctly develop
the desired system with MDA-DSP so that they need to be
perfectly understood. The above screen is the main screen of
WinIDE DSP that is the integrated development environment of
MDA-DSP, and herein each window and menu are to be
explained for the first-time user.

Functions such as edit file, save file, assemble & link,
compile & link, download, etc. are available.

The Main & Sub Menus.

There are submenus for a main manu, and shortcut buttons
are made to execute the main menus and the submenus at a
time. If the cursor is placed on this shortcut button, the ballon
hemp shows up and lets the function of the shortcut button
known.

The Program Memory window.

The disassembled code for the program you are working
file is displayed here along with a address, machine
language, mnemonic code.

The MMR(Memory Mapped Register) window.

The values displayed here are updated after a breakpoint is
encountered when executing normally, after every instruction
while single-stepping.

Note that the registers are now set to their default power on
value as defined by the WinIDE DSP.

The contents of the MMR( Memory Mapped Registers ) are

displayed. and some contents of the MMR can be modified with
the mouse and the keyboard of a personal computer.
If you alter the PC value, the color bar of the
program window may be change the positioning line.

The Ram Block window.
