We're reporting a follow-up to an article we published last week that involves an officer employed by the Schiller
Park Police Department. We’d appreciate you reviewing the following material and then providing us with
answers to two brief questions.
From “SALF whistleblower’s atty: IL cop’s ‘fraud and perjury’ led to her indictment!,” Cincinnati Beacon, July 15,
2010: http://bit.ly/aJ8leB
For almost four - that’s right - four years, (Annabel) Melongo has been facing criminal charges that she
supposedly destroyed (the Schiller Park-based Save-A-Life Foundation’s) computer files…On July 6,
Melongo’s attorney J. Nicholas Albukerk filed a Motion to Dismiss on the grounds that “the indictment
was procured through fraud and perjury given by the State’s witness, Detective William Martin…At both
the original January 2007 (grand jury) indictment and the subsequent May 2008 indictment, Schiller
Park Police Officer William Martin offered material testimony that he knew to be untrue.”
The text of the above-referenced Motion, filed July 6 with the Cook County Circuit Court’s Criminal Division, is
published in full on the Beacon’s website: http://bit.ly/aJ8leB
For your convenience, here’s a link to a copy of the original Motion and attached exhibits: http://bit.ly/9Fz4gk
For more background, you may wish to review, “The Cook County Jail Inmate the Chicago Papers Are Working
Hard to Forget” by Lee “Archy” Cary published July 12, 2010 by Andrew Breitbart’s Big Journalism: http://bit.ly

1) After reviewing the materials, do you have any concerns about the allegations in the Motion regarding
Detective Martin?
2) Do you intend to present this information to any other Schiller Park officials for review? If so, which officials?
Thanks for your consideration and we look forward to receiving your answers, preferably by end of the day
Tuesday July 20. If you need more time, please advise and we’ll do our best to accommodate your schedule.
Sincerely,
Jason Haap
