This course description is a framework for the elective DEMOLA at SDU, UCL, EAL and SIMAC. Based on this each
institution contextualize supplementary course descriptions with all relevant information.
The DEMOLA course description has been approved by the steering committee for VkstLab Fyn d.19.4.2017.
CONTENT
DEMOLA is multi professional and multi-disciplinary innovation course where students in teams co-create solutions,
services, concepts and products together with partners from private and public businesses. DEMOLA teams work with
real motivated cases and challenges. The objective is by co-creation to reach innovation.
Purpose:
The objective of the course is to develop the student's ability to apply and reflect on his/her knowledge as well as
professional role in a multi-disciplinary team (consisting of 4--6 students from all faculties and different universities) while
working on a real world innovation challenge together with a company representative.
The aim of the course is that the student, via utilization of the methods of multi-disciplinary development processes and
the inclusion of relevant theories, shall be able to analyze, develop, test and argue for solutions for the case.
The students will work with different innovation methods (IDEO Idea generation, Bottom-up primary market
segmentation, Persuasive Argumentation & Structured Thinking and Pitching) in order to qualify the case.
The starting-point shall be parts of the theory areas that have been learned during the students education. These
selected areas of theory shall be further elaborated on the basis of the students application of them in the project group
and case.
ENROLMENT
Prerequisites:
The student has passed the 1st year exam.
The student has been approved by the DEMOLA organization. Admission is based on individual selection made by
DEMOLA facilitators.
Preconditions:
The student needs to be prepared and motivated to work with multidisciplinary cases together with private/public
partners. Furthermore the student needs to be challenged on entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills.
The student is required to attend events and facilitation processes in order to enhance the multidisciplinary team work. In
order to participate in Final Pitch Graduation the student must be a part of the full course.

PROCESS
Facilitation:
A professional facilitator from the DEMOLA organization is attached to the project to ensure process support for the
student team as well as the company. DEMOALA teams are provided with a facilitator during the course. The purpose
of the facilitator is to ensure and enhance the design and running of successful meetings and workshops. Facilitation in
DEMOLA is described as orchestrating random collisions between different set of competences and creation of safe
environment where learning takes place from each others and make the atmosphere and situations easy to co-create.
The DEMOLA facilitators are the process owner; they run milestones and workshops with teaching and interacting
activities and facilitating teamwork.
Supervision:
At some institutions the DEMOLA-facilitators are supervisors too.
At other institutions an academic supervisor is appointed to the student. The supervisor supports the student to meet the
academic level and requirements in the written report.
5 ECTS course: Approx. 5 hours supervision. 10 ECTS course: Approx. 10 hours supervision. 15 ECTS course: Approx.
15 hours supervision. The supervisor will normally be the examiner.
EXAMS
Examination:
The examination conditions differ between institutions.
The most common examination is a written report handed in at the end of the same semester as the course runs. The
report can be supplemented with an oral defense. The report is evaluated by 7-scale grading or Pass/Fail. The report
may be prepared either in Danish or English.
The extent of the report for one student will be approx. 10-15 pages (excluding any appendix) for 5/10/15 ECTS.
Exam Aids allowed: All exam aids allowed.
In connection with renewed examination attempts, a new report shall be written. This may be prepared within the same
field as the preceding report.

Content - Key areas:
The academic content shall lie within the students educational profile. The detailed academic approach is decided by
the student in collaboration with an academic supervisor. The academic approach and the description of this shall be
approved by the supervisor.
Objectives:
In a written reflection report the student shall demonstrate the following skills:
Knowledge:
Demonstrate a basic knowledge about the different methods connected to a multi-disciplinary innovative project
as well as being able to identify relevant theory within the field of the students disciplinary profile that can be
used to analyze the project and the specific case.
Skills:
The student can identify and apply theoretical knowledge from his/her study to solve concrete professional
challenges and reflect on this.
The student can reflexively engage in a project team and use relevant design, production, and development
methods to develop a demo or prototype of a product, service, concept or other form of innovation outcome.
The student can collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams and achieve knowledge and skills about theories and
processes relevant to the project.
The student can rationalize as well as sell the groups idea, product and work process in a written report.
Competences:
The student is able to utilize methods and knowledge from the DEMOLA innovation process as well as relevant
theories into other similar projects in a study or working context.
The student is able to utilize methods and knowledge from the DEMOLA innovation process to transfer
academic knowledge into working relations with partners from the private and public sector.
LITERATURE
Literature:
Mandatory (200 pages): Aulet, B. (2013), Disciplined Entrepreneurship: 24 Steps to Successful Startup.
Additional: Approx. 300 pages chosen by the student and approved by the supervisor.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
Extra-curricular:
It is possible to participate in the DEMOLA course as extra-curricular. The student applies, participates and offers same
workload as the other students. These students will not be examined or supervised.
Please note that this is a framework and it is necessary to pay attention to your own respective course description.
Also please note that it is always the Study Board/Head of education or the like that approves DEMOLA as an elective
course.
