In this wild election, one may find himself struggling with which candidate to support.

So how do
you learn what they stand for and who you should vote for? A great way is to tune into the
Presidential Debates.
These are designed to give each partys candidate a forum to debate the other over politics and
answer questions from an impartial moderator. At the time of writing, one debate has already
passed.
On September 26, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump duked it out at Hofstra University in
Hempstead, New York. A record amount tuned in to watch this debate between the two. The
debate lasted two hours and covered three topics: achieving prosperity, Americas direction and
securing America.
This debate was by far the most popular the U.S. has ever had. In 1980, the debate between
Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter had around 80 million viewers, which was the previous
record. This debate had over 84 million people watching.
Unsurprisingly, this debate was filled with interruptions, personal attacks and plenty of calls for a
fact checker. Moderator Lester Holt began by asking about each candidate plans on improving
the economy.
Trumps plan is to prevent jobs from going across the border and overseas, whereas Clinton
focuses on taxing the rich to make life easier for the middle class.
What was particularly exciting was the candidates addressing each other directly about
scandals such as Clintons deleted emails and the often-criticized Clinton Foundation, or
Trumps taxpaying history or his reputation as racist.
In past interviews, Trump has said many things that are very controversial concerning race,
culture, sex and abortion. Clinton was able to use this against him and take advantage from
that point of view.
Hilary and Trump disagreed on just about everything when debating. Trump wants to lower
taxes on the rich and Clinton wants to raise them.
Trump brought up the email scandal that involved Hillary. She did not excuse herself and said it
was a mistake. Trump did not ease up and still kept pressing her.
Before and after the debate, the candidates acted very peaceful with each other. They shook
hands before and after and still managed to put up a smile.
On October 4, the vice presidential debate took place at Longwood University, Virginia. The two
candidates debating for the vice presidential spot were Governor Mike Pence from Indiana and
Senator Tim Kaine from Virginia.
The second debate will take place October 9 where the two candidates will meet up again.
There was a third debate on October 19. After all the debates are over, voters will have to form
their opinions of who their favorite is and vote by November 8.
