after being told by district officials that ongoing budget
struggles will force their children to enroll at another
school next year.
Compounding the frustration for Portola Elementary
School parents is not just that they received the bad news,
but the way they were told as kindergartners packed home
letters declaring they would not be allowed back for first-
grade.
This is unfair treatment to the families and the kids,
said Yulin Lu. Its just disgusting. I cant believe they did it
this way.

softball team?
With just one active senior on a majority
underclassmen roster, the Dons shocked the
Peninsula Athletic League world by emerg-
ing from last place in the Bay Division in
2016 to finish in third place this season,
securing the A leagues final automatic
postseason berth for the Central Coast
Section playoffs.
Earning a Division I draw, the Dons have
their Cinderella story cut out for them, earn-
ing the No. 16 seed out of 16 teams. They
open their first CCS tournament since 2010
Wednesday at No. 1 Pioneer at 4 p.m. And
fourth-year head coach Christie McCoy has
her team thinking one thing upset.
