Task A BACKGROUND: Select a misleading statistical graph from a magazine, newspaper, television
ad, or the internet. Discuss the story that the ad is telling and the purpose behind it.
DUE: Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Task B DESIGN: Design a survey about a topic that interests you. Your survey should have at least 15
questions and should include a numerical scale for each question. Decide on two sample populations
to survey. Make sure they are random sample populations with no bias. You may not survey any 7th
graders at SMS. Collect your survey data.
Written Survey Due: Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Task C STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Determine the mean, median, and mode of each sample space for
each question. Select three of the questions from your survey that stood out to you as significant.
Create a bar graph or line graph to display the results from these questions.

minimum). You should include answers to the following questions:

What are the factors that are being compared?


What do the axes of the graph represent? (Or, if there are no axes, what information is given?)
What does the graph tell you?
What is misleading about the graph?
What is the purpose of the message?
Who does it benefit?

work. Requirements include:

Describe the theme and purpose of your survey. Include examples of questions you asked and
why you asked those questions.
Describe your two random sample populations.
Describe the data you collected and the differences/similarities you saw between the results in
both populations.
Display your graphs in your presentation.
Include any other relevant or interesting information you discovered.
