Lesson content:
A. Introduction
10 mins
Write the word watch on the board. Use letter cards to show how it is blended together
(w/a/tch)
Get the students to read out the word, what does this word mean? There are two meanings,
this is called a homonym
Explain/discuss that tch makes a ch sound when said in watch.
Brainstorm words that have the same sound (write these on a poster) and words that rhyme
(verbally)
Model writing a sentence using the word. Ensure to use capital letter at the start of a sentence,
full stop at the end and finger spaces between the words.
B. Development
25 mins
In their writing books, students need to write three sentences about the word of the week
When finished, students to practice building the word with magnetic letters/pebbles/bolts.
D. Closure
5mins
Pick 3-5 students to come up to the front of the class and show their work
Lesson/activity transition:
Students are to pack away books and activities then sit back on the mat.
