(Point to arrow under d.) This arrow tells me that | can’t stop under this sound. But you must say the sound with the next sound when I stop. 3, (Point to first ball.) Sound out (pause) duck. Get ready, (Slide past d. Stop at balls for other sounds.) "“duuuk.” 4. (Demonstrate sounding out if response is not firm. Child should not stop between d and uuu. Sound out the next word, (Child touches under and says:) “sssééé." What word? “see.” 3. (Repeat step 2 for remaining words in story.) TASK 8 SECOND READING 1. This time you read the story again and I'll ask questions. Touch the ball on the top line and get ready to read the words. (Repeat steps from first reading for each word. Ask following comprehension questions after child has read indicated sentences.) 2. (After child has read:) “We see a duck.” (You say:) What do we see? “We can sit in the sun with that duck.” What can we do with that duck? “Itis fun in the sun.” — Where are we having fun? duc. TASK 9 PICTURE COMPREHENSION 4. What will you see in the picture? Yes, people and a duck. 2. What will the people be doing? 3. Look at the picture and get ready to answer some questions 4. What are we doing in this picture? Yes, having a picnic. Is a picnic fun? Where is the duck? What is that duck doing? Did you ever have a picnic with a duck? PNOM TASK 10 READING THE FAST WAY 1.
