Objective:

Students will be able to retell stories and the details of the stories successfully.
Materials:
Story map worksheet (attached)
Powerpoint
Book Red Riding Hood by James Marshall
Anticipatory set: (5 Minutes)

Introduce the story map

Direct Instruction/ Guided Practice: (10 Minutes)
Read Red Riding Hood
Using the PowerPoint as a visual for the kids, ask questions to fill in the beginning
and middle of the story map paper on the board, with the students following along
and writing the same on their own papers.
Independent Practice: (10 Minutes)
After going through the beginning and middle with the class, students will do the
end box independently (with assistance from teacher as needed).
Students work on the summary independently (instructions on the last PowerPoint
slide)
Teacher available and going around the room to work with students and check for
understanding.
Closure: (5 Minutes)
Allow students to share their end boxes and summaries
Review the story map and instructions
Give them homework
Assessment/Homework:

Formative: Walk around the room while students are working to help and answer
questions, checking for understanding.
Summative: Homework assignment: to complete a story map worksheet for the
other story (paper attached), and write a summary of the story.

Accommodations:
I would just offer extra assistance to students with learning disabilities or English
learners. I would be sure to go over the information more and help them, but on a
smaller scale, not in front of the whole class.
