1. Conquered by France - Napoleon III decided on July, 1857 to invade Vietnam.the


invasion of a result of missionary propaganda. The commander in East Asia, Rigault
de Genouilly,was ordered make the French military take action against Vietnam,in
the harbour and city of Tourane (Da Nang) and turn it into a French military base.
2. Formation of Vietnam Restoration Society-1912 the first political organization in
Vietnam. it was from 1904 to 1912. it was founded in Quang Nam Province (central
Vietnam) started by the revolutionary democrat Phan Boi Chau.
3. The Nghe-Tinh Revolt-1930 T he uprising of the Ngh-Tnh soviets was the series of
uprisings, strikes and demonstrations in 1930 and 1931 by Vietnamese peasants,
workers, and intellectuals against the colonial French regime, the mandarinate, and
landlords.
4. Under Japanese Occupation 1940 - Japan took over Vietnam in September 1940.
they stayed there until the end of World War II (August 1945), when they took over,
they hoped to close off Chinas southern border and take away their supply of
weapons and materials
5. Declaration of independence 1945 Sep. 02- In 1945/9/2 Vietnam Independence
League announced that they were independent from the colonized of French and
built their own country under the leadership of Communist party of Vietnam.
6. Battle of Dien Bien Phu 1954 May 07- This was the last battle between French and
Vietnam during Vietnam war, which was in 1954. This battle also end the colonized
of French since 1884.
7. French leave Vietnam- 1956 April 28, 1956, The last French soldier leaves South
Vietnam. The French High Command for Indochina is then dissolved.
8. Tet Offensive 1968 Jan 30- Tet offensive was the surprise attack started by the
North Vietnamese Army to raid the South Vietnam, US and its coalition. Even the
attack was fail, but it unexpected shock US, which became the main reason that
caused US initiate a peace talk.
9. My Lai-1968 march 16 This was the massacre that Vietnam War mass killing of
between 347 and 504 unarmed civilians in South Vietnam on March 16, 1968, which
was committed by U.S.
10. Peace agreement reached-1973 After the unexpected shock by Tet offensive, US
decided to have a peace talk with North Vietnam and withdraw the army from South
Vietnam. And sign a peace agreement in Paris.
11. Remaining American withdraw Vietnam-1975 After the peace agreement in Paris,
American soldier slowly withdraw from South Vietnam, then the last few of them
finally leave in 1975 April 30, as the Saigon fall.
12. Fall of Saigon 1975- In April 30, 1975, the Republic of Vietnam(South Vietnam)
collapse, and its capital Saigon were captured by Vietnamese Peoples Army and
also Vietnamese Communist party. The fall of Saigon indicated the end of Vietnam
war. In 1976, the north and south vietnam were finally merged into a unified socialist
republic of Vietnam.
13. Rename of Saigon 1976 - Saigon, the old capatical changed the name into Ho Chin
Minh in this time.
14. D oi Moi 1986 - It is a economic and ideological reform that happen in 1986, which
brought the market economy and opening up policy to Vietnam, and tried to change
the Vietnamese long-term external closure situation.
15. Establishment of diplomatic relation with US 1995- In July, 11, 1995, US
president Bill Clinton announced the formal normalization of diplomatic relations
between the US and Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The establishment also helps
Vietnam get into the international community faster, and encourage its international
trade.

1. Ho Chin Minh - He was the prime minister(1945-55) and the President(1945-69), and
also the key figure in foundation of Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
2. Vo Nguyen Giap - He is one of main founder and leader of Vietnamese Communist
party, Democratic Republic of Vietnam,tec.
3. Bao Dai - he was the final emperor of Nguyen Dynasty, but with no much political
power.
4. Tran Dai Quang - the current president of Vietnam since April 2, 2016.
5. John F. Kennedy - was the first person to send the u.s military army into vietnam in
1962.

National symbols:
Chim Lac: Was the first of vietnam. the symbol is found in the surface of "Bronze Drum". it is also
the symbol of the Vietnamese forbidden kingdom Lac Viet.

the lotus: Its a very special flowers, it represents the pureness pleasant smile despite it growing
in the mud and it represents the vietnamese people

the bamboo: the trees always grow in a straight manner and and it represents how the people
will always stand tall and never give up despite the hardship that they face.
