IPhO
LEVEL 1
Foreword
The Preparation guides for IPhO are intended to help everyone who
wants to achieve a good result on IPhO. As for all others fields of science,
most important thing will be hard work. I believe that everyone has a
natural instinct to understand physics, the only difference in-between
students is the time spent working hard on that subject. The expression
''hard work'' is inappropriate for physics. If you don't make it for yourself a
enjoyable task to do, you are doing it wrong and chances are that you
won't achieve your goal.
In each book I will try to build up a structure; first the lesson part,
videos, instruction and then the problem part where will be given problems
recommendations from problem books. I will try to cover all of the syllabus
for IPhO except the experimental part.
LEVEL 1
This level will include non-calculus, short physics problems. This
is the key level to success. If you find it hard to do the
problems, do them less than 60% you should go to the beginner
level. Even this level will be divided into 3 sublevels according
to their difficulty. Problems without the asterisk are the easy
ones, more difficult are with one (*) and really hard with (**).
Important is to notice that all of the problems are doable and
obligatory if you want to be prepared for IPhO. If you know
calculus it would be easier for you to get through this level but
try to do the problems both ways- with and without calculus.
The most important thing to learn is creativity and
understanding of physics rather than mathematical virtuosity or
speed of working.'' as in the syllabus is noted.
