3. OVERVIEW
The ALU 9358 RFO provides an easy-to-use tool for the examination of RF links
between base stations and mobiles. Use ALU 9358 RFO to ensure that the network is
operating efficiently by observing its detailed analysis of key statistics, and by the
presentation of key parametric information in various graphical modules.

ALU 9358 RFO decodes and analyzes:

- Call Traces collected at RNC through OMC;
- Control Node & Interface Node (xml);
- CTa, CTb, CTg, OTCell, Object Trace IU-CS/PS traces.

In addition ALU 9358 RFO is able to decode CTn traces.

ALU 9358 RFO analyses the data from those different physical files to create various
statistics and views of the data.

ALU 9358 RFO is a standalone PC application; it does not need to be connected to

5.4. FILES IMPORT

Once a database is created, you can import data into it. ALU 9358 RFO is able to
import data from:
- files on local machine
- WMS servers

When disk space is low on the drive where ALU 9358 RFO databases are stored, a red
exclamation mark may appear in the Data Manager next to the database icon. This
icon appears when disk space is low and may be insufficient for further operations
with the database.
The user should free up disk space or consider changing database location in the ALU
9358 RFO options, and then recreating the database and load the files anew.

Note: database size depends on the type of imported XML trace files and their
content. You can take into account that the ratio of raw XML trace files to the
database size is something of 1 to 3 (for example, 1 Mb of raw files means a 3 Mb
database size).

6.3. USER-DEFINED REPORTS

NOTE: This section describes features available for professional edition only.

6.3.1 OVERVIEW
User-defined reports allow you to create your own reports (views) and customize
them to meet your purposes. For each report you may define its type (per Call or
per Cell) and a set of PIs that should be computed.

Computation of a report is performed for the list of calls/cells selected by you from
the database. The result of computation is a table where for each call/cell
corresponding values of PIs are displayed.

6.3.4 CALLS/CELLS SELECTION

You are able to select calls/cells that will be analyzed during user-defined reports
computation. It can be done via controls that are presented on the panels Calls
and Cells (Figure 6-14). It also can be accessed through the corresponding items in
the View section of the Main menu (see Section 3.2 of the document for details).

Figure 6-15 Call and Cell Lists

These two controls are identical. The only difference is that the Calls list manages
calls, while the Cells list manages cells.

Each control is divided into two major areas (Figure 6-15). Upper area is Showcase
contains a list of all calls/cells currently stored in the database. It is empty when
you start ALU 9358 RFO, because there no database is selected in the Data Manger.
To populate it with calls/cells a database should be selected (see Section 5 of the
document for details). Every time when you import new data in the database or
select another database this area is refreshed.

At the bottom the lists and the consequent managing tools are located (see list
managing operations in the Table 6-10). You can work with several lists at a time,
but process items (calls/cells) from only one you have selected.

4 Toolbar managing operations that can be performed over the list or desk

You may add any number of lists to the desk and fill it with any calls/cells from the
Showcase. So, each list on the desk will contain its own set of the calls/cells. It is
very handy to have a desk with lists you want analyze. You can quickly build
different reports just switching between these ones (note that when you run report
computation, calls/cells from the current list are used).

To create a new list use button New List . After the new list has been created
you can add calls/cells to it from the Showcase. Simply drag items from the
Showcase (upper section of the Calls/Cells List control) or use context menu item
Pick up selected (it can be accessed by its corresponding shortcut key: Ctrl+G). To
remove all or specific calls/cells from the list use the corresponding context menu
or toolbar items: Remove all (respective shortcut key: Ctrl+X) or Remove

selected (respective shortcut key: Delete). You can also remove all items but
selected ones (cropping) by using Remove all but selected menu option (it can
be accessed by its corresponding shortcut key Ctrl+Delete).

After you constructed some list you may want to save it for further use. Such ability
is provided. You may save/open/delete lists. They are stored not on the disk, but in
the current database. This is done because a list is a subset of calls/cells is present
in the database. And so, this is reasonable to associate it with the database.
The following operations may be performed:

Save the current list to the storage (database) by using button Save
List.

Delete a list from the storage database by using button Delete a saved
List. In this case the current list is erased in the storage and removed from
the desk.

Open a list from the database by using button Open a saved List.
Loading is performed via the following dialog (Figure 6-16) that displays all
lists stored in the storage.

Figure 6-17 Stored lists dialog box

Another useful option is an ability to memorize lists that are currently opened on
the desk to be automatically restored when you select this database next time. It

can be obtained through the button Save List Set also. When desk is saving
the all changed lists are saved in the storage too. You can also to restore manually

all the memorized lists via button Restore List Set .

For all available managing operations, please see the table below (Table 6-10).

6.3.5 REPORT VIEW

Report View displays the result of user-defined report computation.

A new Report View window is created each time when you start computation using
Report Manager. You may open several Report Views for the same report. They may
differ from each other since there is no automatic synchronization. For example you
may compute some report once, then remove some indicators from the report and
compute it again. In this case you will have two Report Views with different results,
but for the same report. If you want to refresh already existing window use option
Refresh (see below).

6.4. USER-DEFINED SCENARIOS

NOTE: This section describes features available for professional edition only.

6.4.1 OVERVIEW
User-defined scenarios allow you to analyse calls and collect required information
about them.

Scenario is a state machine that is executed on a call. It determines an algorythm of

analysis. Call events are processed one by one. When an event with specified
characteristics is encoutered, variables are modified and transition to a new state
occurs.

Definitions of scenarios and entities used to construct them (events, variables,

states) are stored in scenario file. It has XML format and may be edited via
Scenario Builder. Management of scenario files is performed via Scenario
Manager.
Processing of scenarios may be run either on calls imported to a database or directly
on call trace files. The Scenario Results view allows to display the results of
processing in different forms and export them if necessary.

Event manager
Variable manager

Each of these views is in charge of a certain part of scenario file. Events manager
and Variables manager are responsible for events and variables lists respectively.
Scenario makeup desktop manages states list and the most important part of
scenario file - scenarios lists.

Mostly these views are intended for addition, removal and duplication of items.
Editing of items contents is performed via the Properties view which displays
properties of the currently positioned item.

The Quick access view serves as a browser with ability to glance over contents of
loaded scenario files (except current) and copy items from them to the currently
opened scenario file.

You can configure Scenario Builder views according to your preferences: dock any
view at the desired position, hide, close or open it. To do that, use views buttons
and menu View located on the Scenario Builder toolbar.

6.4.3.4 SCENARIO MAKEUP DESKTOP

Overview

Scenario makeup desktop is the most important part of Scenario Builder. Its
main purpose is management of scenarios that are contained in the edited scenario
file. Using this control you can add, remove, duplicate scenarios and define their
structure.
Also Scenario makeup desktop manages states contained in the current scenario file.

Scenario makeup tree

Data in Scenario makeup desktop is represented in the form of tree where each
node is an element of scenario file. This tree consists of two parts:
1. States list.
All states used in scenarios are displayed here.

2. Scenarios list.
This part of tree defines scenarios.

Table 6-16 Scenario makeup tree nodes

States list all states from the scenario file are displayed under this
tree node.
Scenario defines scenario properties. Scenarios must have unique
names.
These nodes have different meaning depending on their position in
the tree.
1. When they are displayed under node States, they represent
states defined in the scenario file.
States should have unique names. States Start and Finish
are predefined and their properties and position in the tree
cannot be changed. Take into account that states are shared
between all scenarios and may be referred by several
scenario-states. If you modify or remove a state, all related
scenario-states will be affected.
2. When these nodes are displayed under scenario node, they
represent scenario-states.
Each scenario may contain one or more scenario-state. Each
of them references a state from states list. A scenario must
contain scenario-state referring predefined state Start (it

Copyright 2003-2010 Alcatel-Lucent Alcatel-Lucent 9358 Radio Frequency Optimizer - User Manual
Alcatel-Lucent Confidential 82

cannot be removed). Also optionally it may have state

Finish and several scenario-states defined by the user. Two
scenario-states cannot refer to the same state.

State-event
Each scenario-state may contain several state-events. Each state-
event refers to an event from events list. When this event is
encountered during processing and all conditions defined in the
state-event are met, actions associated with this state-event are
performed and transition to Next state occurs. Text => State A
means that Next state for this event is state with name State
A.

Postprocessing
This element contains a list of actions that are performed after a
scenario is moved to state Finish or the last event of a call is
reached.
Action
This node defines an action that should be performed on the
corresponding variable.

Next sections describe operations that may be performed by using Scenario makeup
desktop.

Remove selected

Select the items you want to remove. Click toolbar item Remove selected .
Note that some items cannot be removed due to their specifics (e.g. predefined
state Start). Also if there is a relationship between item to remove and some
other items additional modifications will be made automatically. For example if you
remove a state from states list all scenario-states that refer to it will be removed as
well. In such cases you will be asked whether you want to continue the operation.

Duplicate
Almost all items located on Scenario makeup desktop may be duplicated. To do
that position an item that you want to duplicate and click toolbar item Duplicate
. A copy of the specified item having the same contents will be created.

Editing Name and Comment fields

Each item in the Scenario makeup desktop tree has name and comment. They are
displayed in the corresponding columns and may be edited by simply typing a new

Copyright 2003-2010 Alcatel-Lucent Alcatel-Lucent 9358 Radio Frequency Optimizer - User Manual
Alcatel-Lucent Confidential 84

text in the desired cell. Note that editing for some items is restricted due to their
specifics (e.g. name of predefined state Start cannot be changed).

Drag & drop support

You can use drag & drop:

to change order and location of items inside tree

to create scenario-states by dragging states from states list to scenarios

for adding new items by dragging them from other controls (Quick
access, Events manager, Variables manager)
to define a transition between states

How and where a dragged item is placed and what action is performed depends on
the type of item you drag and item that is currently under the cursor. An icon
explaining potential drag-drop action is displayed in front of position where you are
going to drop item.

Figure 6-28 Scenario makeup tree item dragging

In the example on the figure scenario-state State A is dragged over scenario

Scenario 2. And icon indicates that this scenario-state will be appended as a
child to this scenario. Other possible cases are the following:

1. - this icon indicates that a dragged item will be inserted before

currently positioned item

2. - this icon indicates that a dragged item will be inserted after currently
positioned item. Note that by default items are inserted before currently
positioned item. To insert it after hold SHIFT key.

3. - this icon indicates that a dragged scenario-state will be set as Next

for the state-event that is currently under the cursor

Move items inside tree

You can change order and location of items inside tree for your own purposes. To do
that, simply drag an item to a new position.

Moving may be restricted if it may lead to any syntax error in the scenario file. For
example if you try to move a scenario-state to a scenario that already contains it,
such operation will be rejected, since scenario should not contain two scenario-
states with identical names.

Also moving may lead to some changes of scenario items properties. Such changes
are made to keep the scenario file consistent. For example if you move a scenario-
state to another scenario, all state-events that refer it as Next in old scenario
now will refer to predefined state None. In such cases you will be asked whether
you want to continue the operation.

Define transition via Drag & drop

Description of the selected property

Each row of the Property view corresponds to a property of scenario element.

Properties are organized in tree-like structure. This is done to group them by
meaning and to display properties of related scenario elements. If a property is a
reference to another element of scenario file, properties of the referred element
are displayed as child rows of this property. For example properties of event are
available via properties of state-event. They are displayed as child rows of the
Associated event row. This is useful when you want to modify an event related to
the current state-event. In this case you do not need to go to Events manager and
look for a needed event. Just use view Properties that provides access to the
events properties.
Properties that cannot be edited are grayed out.

In most cases drop-down list for combo box editors contains only those values that
may be assigned to the current property. For example, when you select state
associated with scenario-state, editors drop-down list does not contain states that
are already used in the scenario.

Most of properties are edited via usual text or combo box editors. But some of them
require a specific editor. The following control is used for editing of call trace
events causes list.

selected file of the active file list, so you can open different views for
different logical files by selecting them in the Active File List

6.10.1 SINGLE-FILE SYNCHRONIZATION MODE

In the single-file synchronization mode, make a file active in the Active File List
by double-clicking or by right-clicking and choosing Select file from menu.

As a result all opened views are updated for that selected file.

6.10.2 MULTI-FILE SYNCHRONIZATION MODE

Making active file from Active File List is the same like for a single-file
synchronization mode.

In the multi-file synchronization mode, choosing another file from Active File List
will not replace any opened views.
