1 Important Safety Information 3 Installing the Prometer 100
Care must be exercised during the installation of
the Prometer 100 meter and associated equipment
due to the presence of mains voltages. Various
points under the terminal cover and on the main
printed circuit board (PCB) under the main cover
operate at hazardous voltages.

In case of auxiliary powered and self+auxiliary powered variants, meter will draw power from Aux 2
supply input. In its absence it will shift to Aux 1 supply (in case of auxiliary powered variant) and VT
supply (in case of self+auxiliary powered variant).
Note: Refer to alarm information for details on indication for auxiliary power supply failure.
Do not connect voltage transformer (VT) to any of the Aux supply input terminal as a general practice. If
it is necessary to connect VT secondary to Aux input then make sure to connect it to the Aux1 supply
only in presence of Aux 2 so that burden on measurement VT secondary can be minimal.
Connect your reliable auxiliary supply source like DC bank/AC lighting load/ Aux power transformer etc
to Aux 2 terminal only so that meter burden will be handled by it; or take your best judgment to connect
auxiliary supply source considering the rating and suitable operation of meter and best installation
practices followed.
The field replaceable battery is used as RTC backup. It is also used for meter reading and viewing
display in absence of mains power supply. It only supplies sufficient power to the meter reading and
display circuitry and will not fully power-up the meter. The battery can be replaced in the field. Take care
while inserting the battery; make sure that the polarity and fitment are correct.
Note: Useful life of field replaceable battery can be viewed on the meter display.
Ensure that the correct auxiliary voltage rating is used with the meter. The wrong voltage rating could
cause damage to the meter. Therefore it is recommended to verify and crosscheck the rating-plate on
the actual product in use at the site.

when the meter is turned off, they are open.
It is recommended to use conditioned power supply
(isolated from Mains) for driving loads through pulse
output of product so that any malfunction in the load
or related circuit will not affect the metering. A
tentative scenario for reference is shown in below
diagram.

Sealing Points Terminating Resistor

One terminating resistor (120-150 ohms, 0.5 W)
must be mounted at the far receiver end in every
network (not one for each meter). These resistors
are necessary; otherwise communication errors are
very likely to occur. The purpose of these resistors
is to minimise the signal distortion due to line
reflections.

in the front. Communication through the 1107
infrared optical communications port is performed
through PC with suitable communication cable.
Care has to be taken to align the optical head so
the IR transmitters and receivers are in the best
position to exchange signals. Usually this means
attaching the optical head with the connecting wire
hanging straight down. Ambient visible light
(daylight, incandescent or in particular fluorescent
light) may disturb the exchange of IR signals if
strong enough and cause the communication to fail. Figure 6: Pin Description for RJ-45 Ports

The internal earthing cable between the meter and the rack should also be connected and for this an M4 size
screw should be used in the meter as well as in the rack. Please refer to section Installing the Prometer 100 for
further details.
For self-powered variants, B8 and B9 will not be fitted.
The central block is an Essailec type connector and the RS232, RS485 and Ethernet connectors are all RJ-45
type connectors.
The connection diagram shown on the meter top cover and shown in Figure 7 is for a fully loaded product.
Please refer to your actual order details as to the supplied meter type, number of pulse input/output fitted,
communication channels and power supply options. The meter capabilities will be according to your order.

5.3 19 Rack Installations

The 19 rack allows up to two Prometer 100 meters to be fitted. Each meter is independent of each other and
needs to be wired separately. And will require separate rear shielding, sealing points to be secured and earthing
straps to be fitted. It is advisable to have a single seal at the front shared by the adjoining ends of both the
meters. The depth dimensions are identical to 11 rack installations; the width is double to allow two meters to
be fitted side-by side. Before commencing, read sections Important Safety Information and Installing the
Prometer 100 at the starting of this manual. Observe the same safety considerations as per a single meter
installation.

CT-VT values as Input Parameters. Click on Apply button and then wait for click to apply in meter or you can
save it as off-line mode and apply it later.

Click Read configuration to check the meter CT/VT ratio. You can also check the CT/VT ratio on the meter
display (under Default Display Sequence).

7 Fitting the Battery
The field replaceable battery option is designed to support meter reading in absence of mains power supply
depending on the requirement. The procedure to fit the battery is as follows:

a) Swing-up the front cover and take out the battery holder.
b) Place the battery holder (fitted with new battery) in the space provided and cover it with the front cover using
a retaining screw.
Note: Ensure that the polarity is correct and the battery is snap fitted to the holder provided for it.

Figure 16: Fitting the Battery

While using the battery, the battery status can be checked on display, if it shows either LOW or CRITICAL, the
battery must be replaced as per the above procedure.

Figure 17: Battery Status Displays showing LOW and CRITICAL conditions

Note: Whenever the battery is replaced with the new battery, you need to acknowledge the battery change
using menu buttons. To acknowledge the battery change, go to the configuration menu and select Ack. Battery

Appendix C: Frequently asked questions/ Troubleshooting information
1. Meter is not powering up.
Refer to the rating plate for the power supply option supported by the meter. Also refer to the
connection diagram available on the top of the meter. Make sure that the polarity of wires and
terminals always match and connections are tight.

2. How to make connections for 3-phase 3-wire / 3-phase 4-wire application?

Refer to the meter display (under default display sequence) for the meter type configured and make
connections as directed in the connection diagram provided on the top of the meter. For example, if
the meter type is configured as 3-phase 3-wire, then refer to the respective connection diagram.

3. What type of cable is required for RS485 communication?

Use suitable CAT5/ CAT6 communication cable for connecting to RS485 ports (In and Out) on the
meter. The pin description of RS485 ports is provided on the top of the meter (also shown in the figure
below).

4. How to check the CT/VT ratio configured in the meter?

Refer to the rating plate for the CT/VT ratio configured in the meter. Also refer to the meter display
(under default display sequence) for the CT/VT ratio configured in the meter.

5. How to change the calibration LED configuration from reactive to apparent energy?
Refer to the rating plate and default display sequence for the calibration LEDs configured in the meter.
The calibration LED configuration can be changed using the push buttons (configuration menu on the
meter display). The configuration menu is password protected which can be accessed only by users
authorized to change the configurations.

6. How to verify the status of the real time clock (RTC) battery?
The status of the real-time clock battery is provided on the meter display (Meter Health Status under
default display sequence).

BGX501-947-R03 Installation and Basic Commissioning Manual for Prometer 100 Page 29 of 32
7. How to increase the calibration LED constant?
The calibration LED constant is configured as per the commissioning set in the meter. However, you
can change the same using push buttons (Calib LED Constant under configuration menu on the meter
display).

8. Meter is not communicating with the M-Cubed 100?

The following things should be verified:
Verify the communication settings configured in the meter (refer to the default display
sequence).
Verify that the appropriate communication cable is used between the computer and the
meter.
Ensure that the proper communication settings are configured at the software end.
