Bitter Sweet Success

Linda and Dodong have been married for 15 years. They have 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys.

Four of their children are now having works and far away from them, one is a college student of

Misamis University and the youngest is a Senior High student of Misamis University also. They

are recently residing at Brgy. Tinago Ozamiz City. Both of them are undergraduate because of

the poverty they had before.

When they got married they already know what are the instances to happen in their lives. "They

wanted a good living and its like if you have decided to get some palms for your home there are

a few things you must remember to ensure that the tree grows healthy" (Srinivasan, 2005).

Farming is the only source of their income in the family. "Every aspiring and existing farmer

would love to own their own land; to find that acreage that they can work for decades to come,

and to pass that land on to the next generation" (Francis, 2016). Only her husband is working

because she had to take care of their children. P100 to P200 pesos per day his husband can earn

through farming as long as the weather is good. Lucky to buy aletchon manokfor their meal if

the time of harvest is quite good. As the time goes by the number of their family member was

increasing because of unending giving birth of her. And the needs of the family also increases

and her husband cannot cater everything in a single click. Number 1 problem of them is the milk

for their baby, foods and of course they need to send them to school. They have talk about it and

discuss on how to increase their income for their daily spending now that the time is very fast.

(Physical Therapist Makes it Big in Pigery, 2014)" Learning from his failure and mistake".
They decided to sell the part of their farm yield in order to get a fund for them to start a small

business. Farmers have to do their part in making the hybrid successful (dela Cruz, 2004).And

there goes there so called Sari-sari Store so that she can also help her husband . On the year

1990s, due to a good harvest made by his husband and thinking that they cannot utilize

everything and so she made an idea to have it in a retail. She expect that it would be sold and no

worries since they have already customers of their Sari-sari Store.

Not to expect that many people went at their Sari-sari store to buy rice. Food security needs

priority in marginal areas, commercialization in dynamic areas (Djurfeldt, 2015). And the point

also is that their soled rice is at a very affordable thats why people tend to buy at their Sari-sari

store rather than at the market. And their business really gets boom and have its unexpected

success after the years passes by. They decided to construct a bigger building for the storage of

their rice and of course for their store. They have bought a car and a delivery track for their

transactions. They have also bought farm yields for more rice to harvest. And bought a rice mill

for them to make their work easy. I cant believe that they are the one who delivered rice in some

food chains here in Ozamiz and many more, namely Jollibee, McDonalds and Chowking and so

on. The Sari-sari store before is now a convenient store. One of her children have an idea to put a

franchise rice store where they recently residing with her family.

After a long talk with her, I felt a heartful gratitude for she shares their lives even it's too

personal. The lessons stuck on my mind that being uneducated person will not define what your

future holds. Its all about the hard work, trust, and faith in God. You are the one who makes your
life a successful one. Everyone has the capability to do the same thing too as long as you have

the perseverance and motivation in life.

The Low-Cost Model

By Madhukar Angur

The low-cost model can be summed up in one word: Ryanair. This is an extremely

well established business model, where the aim is to drive significant volumes of

customers (at a low customer acquisition cost) and by charging a very low price. In

return, revenue is earned from a whole host of ancillary sources

Low-cost model is a point to point services and predominantly direct distribution.

Low-cost carrier business model is evolving towards a hybrid approach.

Linda and Dodong follows a simple business model of reducing price as much as

possible. They believe that customers will buy those demanded goods and products

for everyday consumption.

In lowering cost and prices it will stimulate a demand by attracting customers who

have a small income and budgets for daily spending. Linda and Dodong relies on

higher customer volume to grow its revenues.

By allowing customers to see the pricing of their products and goods, they brings in

a level of transparency unlike many other conpetitors.
