BBC Future Journalist Award 2015 Indonesia


The BBC Future Journalist Award 2015 Indonesia is a journalism competition organised by
BBC Global News Limited in association with Indovision. The competition aims to discover,
inspire and recognise aspiring journalists in Indonesia.

To apply for the BBC Future Journalist Award 2015 Indonesia, you shouldbe passionate about
news and current affairs and keen to pursue a career in broadcast or digital journalism.

Twenty candidateswill be shortlisted from applicationsto attend a workshop, interview and


assessment held in Jakarta. Two outstanding candidates will then be selectedfrom the
shortlisted candidates to win the BBC Future Journalist Award 2015 Indonesia,which includes
a six-day trip to London, the opportunity to visit the BBC Multi-Media Newsroom
headquarters and a two day journalism training workshop.

Please read the entry requirements carefully and complete all sections. You will be assessed
not just on your answers, but also on your standard of writing, spelling and grammar. All
answers must be in English.

Entry requirements:

All candidates must be:

aged 18 or over on6 August 2015


a legal resident of Indonesia
currently studying, or have secured a place to study in the 2015/16 academic year, for a
Sarjana (S1) course at an accredited University in Indonesia;
fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia; and
hold or be able to obtain a passport that is valid for travel to the UK.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The BBC Future Journalist Award 2015 Indonesia (Award) is organised by BBC
Global News Limited (BBCGN), in association with Indovision. Please ensure you
read the entry requirements below carefully before you apply.

Eligibility

1. Applicants for the Award must meet the following criteria:


i) you must be aged 18 or over on 6 August 2015;
ii) you must be a legal resident of Indonesia;
iii) currently studying, or have secured a place to study in the 2015/16 academic
year, for a Sarjana (S1) course at an accredited University in Indonesia;
iv) you must be fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia; and
v) you must hold or be able to obtain a passport that is valid for travel to the UK.

2. Employees of any of the Award partners, BBC, the BBC Group of companies and any
other company associated with the Award or their respective associated companies
and members of their families are not permitted to enter the Award.

3. BBCGN reserves the right to refuse any application for the Award at its sole discretion
and is not required to give any reason for such refusal and shall have no liability for
any loss arising from such refusal.

Application Process

4. All applicants meeting the eligibility criteria and wishing to be considered for the
Award must complete and submit a copy of their personal CV (maximum two pages)
together with a completed Award application form found online at www.bbcfja.com.
Applications will be open from 6 August 2015 and all application forms and CVs must
be submitted to the email address bbcfja@bbc.com no later than 2359 (WIB) on 11
September 2015. No entries will be considered after this date.

5. Only one application per person will be accepted.

6. In order to ensure that the Award is open to a wide range of applicants BBCGN or its
Award partners may, at their discretion, actively approach potential applicants and
invite them to apply.

7. Applicants will receive an email notification to acknowledge receipt of their


application form. Due to the anticipated volume of applications, feedback will not be
possible for each applicant.

8. All eligible applications will be assessed by BBCGN and up to 20 (twenty) applicants


will be selected to attend the Assessment Stage of the Award. All successful
applicants will be notified in the week commencing 21 September 2015.

Assessment Stage

9. BBCGN will invite up to 20 successful applicants from the Application Process to the
Assessment Stage which will be held on 10 October 2015 and 11 October 2015 in
Jakarta, Indonesia. The Assessment Stage will provide an opportunity to learn skills
relevant to being a journalist and enable the Award Judges to assess your
performance in a range of situations. The Assessment Stage will comprise of group
and individual exercises relevant to the role of a journalist, written and verbal
exercises and an interview.

10. All insurances, transfers, overnight accommodation, spending money and other
expenses (including meals or personal expenses) as the case may be for the
Assessment Stage are the sole responsibility of each applicant.

Award

11. Two winners for the Award will be selected from the Assessment Stage and will be
notified on 11 October 2015. The winners will be required to attend the Award
Presentation Event to announce the winners on 12 October 2015. Overnight
accommodation for the two winners on 11 October 2015 prior to the Award
Presentation Event will be arranged and paid for by BBCGN.

12. The two winners of the Award will each receive:


(a) a place on a journalism workshop held in London;
(b) a tour of the BBC Multi-Media Newsroom in New Broadcasting House, London;
(c) 1 (one) return economy flight from Jakarta to London, together with transfers to
Jakarta and London airports; and
(d) accommodation in London during the 6 (six) day trip.

13. BBCGN reserves the right to alter and/or withdraw the award prizes at any time for
prizes of equal or greater value.

14. BBCGN will notify you of available dates for the trip which will be dates during the
period 1 December 2015 to 1 September 2016. In the event that you are unable to
make any of the dates BBCGN reserves the right to offer your place to another
applicant.

15. Prizes are not redeemable in cash and are not transferable. The Prizes must be
accepted as awarded no substitutions at the request of the winning applicants will
be made, except at the sole discretion of BBCGN. Any unused portion of the Prizes
will be forfeited and shall have no cash value.

Miscellaneous

16. Applicants agree they will not take part (or agree to take part) in any media
coverage, or make any statements, press releases or other announcements regarding
participation in the Award or being selected as a winner of the Award without the
prior agreement of BBCGN. Applicants shall keep the identity of the winners
confidential (including making no announcements on social media) until the public
announcement of the winners by BBCGN at the Award Presentation Event.

17. BBCGN does not accept any responsibility for late or lost entries. Proof of sending is
not proof of receipt. No responsibility is accepted for incomplete entries or entries
made fraudulently.

18. BBCGN reserves the right to reject any entry which is illegible, arrives after the
closing date, is submitted by an ineligible applicant or for any other reason at its sole
discretion.

19. BBCGN reserves the right to alter and/or cancel the Award or any element of the
Award at its sole discretion and shall have no liability for any loss arising.

20. BBCGN reserves the right to notify applicants of further Award terms and conditions
during the process.

21. Any documentation required as proof of an applicants eligibility must be received


within 5 (five) days of request by BBCGN. By entering this Award, you hereby warrant
that all information submitted by you is true, current and complete. BBCGN reserves
the right to verify the eligibility of all applicants and disqualify an applicant for
submitting false or incomplete information. BBCGN reserves the right to disqualify
any applicant if it has grounds to believe that the applicant has breached any of the
Award terms and conditions.

22. If you do not provide us with correct and accurate up-to-date contact details, we will
be unable to contact you and you may as a result forfeit your place at further stages
of the Award and/or your prize (as applicable). If we are unable to contact you after
reasonable attempts have been made we reserve the right to offer, as applicable,
your place to another applicant or award unclaimed prizes to alternative winners or
not to award them at all.

23. BBCGN accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss or injury suffered by any
applicant entering the Award or as a result of accepting any prize. BBCGN is not
responsible for any injury or damage to an applicants or any other persons device
related to or resulting from participation or downloading of any materials related to
the Award. Nothing shall exclude BBCGNs liability for death or personal injury as a
result of its negligence.

24. The Award winners must be able to secure an appropriate UK visa, which BBCGN will
pay for on the winners behalf. The winners are expected to return to their home
country at the end of the trip. BBCGN will withdraw the prize, if an appropriate UK
visa cannot be obtained.

25. The Award winners are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents (e.g.
passport, visa) and complying with all health or other government regulations
(including obtaining their own travel and medical insurance). Once flight bookings are
confirmed and tickets issued, changes will not be permitted.

26. BBCGN reserves the right to withdraw an applicants place in the process at any
stage of the Award or the Award and Prizes from the winners if an applicant or the
winners (as applicable) do anything which BBCGN considers may bring BBC, BBC
World News or BBC.com into disrepute or which may adversely affect the reputation
of BBC, BBC World News, BBC.com, the Award or Award partners.

27. The decisions of the Award Judges and BBCGN are final and no correspondence or
discussion will be entered into.

28. You hereby assign to BBCGN the complete copyright and all other rights (both
existing at the date hereof and in the future) for all purposes (including use in all
media now known or which may hereafter become known) in any contributions made
by you during the Award process and in the course of any workshop for the full period
of copyright and any extensions, revivals or renewals thereof. You hereby waive the
benefits of any provision of law known as moral rights or any similar laws of any
jurisdiction in which waiver is permissible.

29. You confirm that any material produced by you during the Award process and in the
course of any workshop will (i) be wholly original and will not infringe the rights of
any other person or parties; and ii) will not be defamatory or obscene or likely to
bring the BBC into disrepute.

30. All applicants agree to undertake all reasonable press and publicity as may be
required by BBCGN and its Award partners including, without limitation, radio and
video interviews. You agree that BBCGN and its Award partners may without further
consent use your name, likeness, biography, photographs of you and recordings of
interviews with you in advertising and publicity for the Award in all media worldwide.

31. The information that you provide will be collected and compiled by BBCGN for the
purposes of the Award. BBCGN may share your personal information with any
member of the BBC group of companies and any third parties we have appointed to
perform certain functions for the Award on our behalf (including administering the
Award and/or Prizes). BBCGN may also share your personal details with Award
partners for the purposes of carrying out any press and publicity interviews relating
to the Award. Parties who have access to your personal information will be required
to protect this information and will not be permitted to use this information for any
purpose other than to as set out above. Further information about the BBCs Privacy
and Cookies Policy can be found atwww.bbc.co.uk/privacy.

32. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

33. Applicants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by
them when entering the Award.
