Space exploration and colonization have been one of the major goals of explorers and scientists

alike. Dussault explains how the colonization of another planet may be accomplished by a

privately run organization. He offers SpaceXs goal to colonize Mars within the next few

decades to come. Dussault gives examples of why or how they might complete this goal such as

the devices he plans to use to reach Mars. Examples of how government regulations and licenses

are given to show how the government may affect the outcome of the project. Opinions of

experts are quoted in the text to help the reader develop their own opinion on the matter. It shows

how corporations are working to travel through space. The interesting subject of space

colonization is enough to make any reader want to learn more about it.

"Moon village envisioned by European Space Agency." CNN Wire, 24 Mar. 2016. Global Issues in

Context, link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/A447338202/GIC?u=mass12242&xid=34bf7e37.

The author of the article explains how the Moon could be used as a space village and possibly

replace the ISS in the future. Specific details and possible locations of the village have been

given to help the reader see a better picture of the village. Some possible uses of the village

could be mining and tourism. Since the moon cant be claimed by anyone country, it could serve

as a new ISS since the current one is doomed to be decommissioned 2024. The creation of a

space village could help advance space exploration.

Jupiter moon, Europa, has shown signs of water plumes erupting from its icy surface. The author

gives examples of how this could show the possibility of life although it is most likely bacterial

and unadvanced. Water is one of the known necessities of life, and Europa has a substantial

amount of it. It has an entire hidden ocean underneath its surface. The author gives an example

of how this may help scientists research the ocean for life because the plumes have pushed the

material towards the surface of Europa, making it more easily accessible. The ideas given by the
author are scientifically factual, but are a far distance in the future. The possibility of life on

Europa may be a scientific breakthrough in the future, and it may lead to colonization if life can

be sustained.

Harry L. Shipman, a professor, brings about the discoveries we have made of signs of water on

Mars and one of Jupiters moons, Europa. He explains how this discovery has brought the idea of

colonization of these two astronomical bodies into the realm of possibility. He brings up the

possible issues we may face while trying to colonize any of these planets. Shipman brings up

solutions to the incapability of life such as many scientists believing that Mars could be

terraformed to make life on Mars much more possible and accessible. The multiple subjects may

be used to show the variety of ways in which space travel and colonization can be achieved

"United States : LOCKHEED Martin signs agreement with NASA for SkyFire infrared lunar discovery
satellite." Mena Report, 13 Aug. 2016. Global Issues in Context,

Jan. 2017.

The SkyFire is a small cost effective satellite that could be used to study planets before humans

arrive. The SkyFire is small and cheaper than other satellites. It is planned to be expanded in

2018. The author of the article gave specific examples of how the SkyFire could be utilized in

space exploration. It can examine soil conditions, possible landing sites, and help astronauts find

habitable landing zones. It is currently in development by Lockheed Martin and will be used by

NASA. The author gives examples of how the technology is being researched to help make space

travel possible. Using the SkyFire satellite could help make interplanetary exploration safer and

more affordable.
