ABSTRACT:

Cement mortar (W/C~0.5) grouted, single steel tubes with 114.3mm/10mm or

127mm/12.5mm external diameter/thickness were generally adopted as micropiles. However,
where extremely weak organic and/or peat layers encountered at shallow depths, double steel
tubes, 219.1mm/10mm (fyk=355MPa/ fyk=560MPa) outer tube and 114.3mm/10mm or
127mm/12mm (fyk=355MPa/ fyk=560MPa) inner tube, were adopted to avoid buckling which
was governing the design.

The carrying capacity of the piles was calculated as 1000kN .The predictions for the carrying
capacity of the micropiles were verified by Static Load test.
