3 Teaching-Learning Process
2.3.1 How does the college plan and organize the teaching, learning
and evaluation schedules?(Academic calendar, teaching plan,
evaluation blue print, etc.)

i) Academic calendar:
The student handbook includes JNTU Kakinada academic calendar which
is available on the university portal. A separate department level
academic calendar which includes different activities to be organized is
drafted keeping in view the University academic calendar.
ii) Handouts: Handouts on each subject are prepared with the following
contents.
Course objectives and outcomes.
Unit wise lecture schedule.
Text books, Reference books and important URLs for the subject material.
Assignments and important questions in each unit, Content beyond
syllabus.
The evaluation procedures for internal tests - theory and practical.

iii) Teaching Plan:


Subjects are allocated to the concerned faculty in a meeting conducted
before commencement of every semester by the Head of the Department.
Class timetables are displayed in all the notice boards at Department
level.
Laboratory manuals are prepared and given to students for reference at
the beginning of the semester.
Syllabus coverage is periodically reviewed in review meetings.
Teacher uses teaching aids like OHPs, LCDs wherever necessary for better
understanding.
Class tests are conducted besides giving assignment and tutorials.
All the faculty members use attendance registers for the concerned
theory as well as laboratory courses which contains details like students
register number, name, attendance details, period wise syllabus
coverage, periodical test marks, attendance percentage and internal
assessment marks.
iv) Evaluation:
Mid exams are conducted twice in a semester. An on line objective
test and offline descriptive test are conducted for each subject.
Internal lab examinations are conducted once in every semester.
Slow learners are identified through internal assessment in all subjects.
As per University guidelines continuous evaluation procedure is
followed for practicals.
End semester examinations in both theory and practicals are
conducted by University. Main projects evaluation is also done by the
University.

2.3.2 How does IQAC contribute to improve the teaching learning


process?
The IQAC is constituted and takes the following activities:
Development of Quality benchmark/parameters for various academic and
administrative activities of the institute.
Organization of workshops, seminars and quality related themes.
Documentation of various programmes/activities leading to quality
improvement.
Conducting internal quality audit periodically.
Preparation of Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR), post accreditation, to
be submitted to NAAC.

2.3.3 How is learning made more student-centric? Give details on the


support structures and systems available for teachers to develop skills
like interactive learning, collaborative learning and independent
learning among the students?
QISIT believes in student-centric learning and supports creative learning
environment, where students think on their own and interact with peers and
teachers which provides a diversified learning environment and creates an
environment for real communication. Tea ching-learning process constitute of
assignments, discussions, interactions, industrial training and projects. Different
strategies are used to make the process a learner-centered.
Interactive teaching methods are used.
Classes are made more interesting with presentations and group.
Industrial visits are made.
Visits are made to institutions of higher learning and research
Nongovernmental organizations are also visited to make the topics more
informative.
The individual department libraries and also internet facility to access all
the journals, e-material, e-books etc., enables the students and faculty to
keep abreast of the latest developments in their respective fields.
Broadband connectivity and Wi-fi connectivity are available in the college
to make the students to have quick access to the knowledge sharing
through internet.
The college is having well stocked library which consists of bulk of books,
journals,
project reports and other teaching material for the use of students and
faculty to enable independent learning.
Student is encouraged to organize clubs and different technical events.
This enables them to enrich their organizational and managerial skills,
apart from honing their technical knowledge.
The teaches are encouraged to develop different learner- centered
approaches. They are advised to take part in this type of seminars and
many of teachers are trained by Infosys and JNTU Kakinada.
National level symposia in all departments provide a platform for the
students to acquire additional knowledge apart from regular teaching.
More over the students themselves organize and participate in various
technical events. These programs are fully student-centric and they
nurture their organizational and management skills apart from enriching
their technical knowledge.
The college offers support services to its teachers for making the learning
student centric.
Regular guest lectures by eminent experts from industry and academia
are conducted to expertise the students in different aspects.
Alumni meetings are organized.
Lesson notes are distributed after each topic is covered in the class.
The college provides teaching aids such as OHP, LCD projectors,
broadband internet connectivity, Wi-Fi connectivity.
Well equipped labs for improving programming skills & logical thinking,
are provided.
2.3.4 How does the institution nurture critical thinking, creativity
and scientific temper among the students to transform them into
life-long learners and innovators?
The students are encouraged to design their own applications using the
available equipment in the laboratory and software.
The faculty motivates the students to participate in model making, paper
presentations, software contests and various co-curricular activities in
various events organized in and outside the college.
The scientific temper among students is enhanced by providing
additional laboratory hours and research activities.
Students are encouraged to participate in project competitions and
workshops with hands-on experience.
The guest lectures and seminars organized in the college with eminent
faculty enable the students to interact with them in the latest
developments in the technology. This creates an interest in the minds of
the students for further learning processes.
Students are encouraged to take up live / industry projects.
All these activities will generate interest in the students to go higher
levels of learning i.e., innovation, application to societal

2.3.5. What are the technologies and facilities available and used by
the faculty for effective teaching? Eg: Virtual laboratories, e-learning -
resources from National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning
(NPTEL) and National Mission on Education through Information and
Communication Technology (NME-ICT), open educational resources,
mobile education, etc E- Learning facilities are available in the digital library
and it facilitates the faculty and students to utilize E-Tutorials of NPTEL, E-
articles of Journals and Globarena. Many of the faculty communicates with the
students through internet for assignments, uploading lecture notes and
demonstrations, which are well appreciated by students and efforts, are being
made to expand this in a big way so that the faculty communicates with the
students through internet and intranet facility. The teaching aids like multi-
media projectors Internet enabled computer systems are employed in the class
room instructions. The students are encouraged to use computer software
packages for meaningful analysis of experimental data collected/acquired by
them. Student Activity Cell formed. Skill development programme is started by
the AP Government. Through these students are encouraged to create different
apps by exploring modern technology.
2.3.6 How are the students and faculty exposed to advanced level of
knowledge and skills (blended learning, expert lectures, seminars,
workshops etc.)? Experts from industry and academia are invited to give
guest lectures which help the students as well as the faculty to be abreast by
the technology and the innovative trends and methods that are to be adopted to
make teacher learning process more attractive. These lectures improve the
domain of students and faculty. All the departments have their departmental
technical organizations. Each department conducts different technical
competitions at inter-college level fest VIVA VVIT. Students are encouraged to
participate in different events and projects both at college and in other colleges.
For instance, ECE students are encouraged in fabrication of hardware, soft ware
projects like instruments, communication engineering and robotics. Inter
departmental work is also encouraged. A student can use any laboratory and
can take the guidance of any faculty to enhance his skills. Self learning is
encouraged and going beyond the syllabus is expected

2.3.7 Detail (process and the number of students \benefitted) on the
academic, personal and psycho-social support and guidance services
(professional counseling /mentoring/academic advise) provided to
students? Fifteen students are attached to each teacher; the teacher interacts
with the students every now and then. A separate counseling session is
arranged every week the allotted teacher counselor provides the necessary
academic and personal guidance. If any problems is identified the student will
be sent to the professional advisor. The class teacher monitors attendance,
dress code, and students, performance in academics. If any lacuna is found the
students are advised to do well and guidelines are given. Parents are informed
about the students performance. If the student is going be poor even after this,
remedial classes are conducted. Career guidance is given by calling academia
and industry personnel these lectures are organized by training &placement cell.
2.3.8 Provide details of innovative teaching approaches/methods
adopted by the faculty during the last four years? What are the efforts
made by the institution to encourage the faulty to adopt new and
innovative approaches and the impact of such innovative practices on
student learning?
The faculty is adept and adoptable and has thirst for innovative teaching
practices that benefit the students
To make teaching effective, concepts are explained by charts and models
whereever necessary
PPTS are used for effective teaching
Video lectures and videos are also used
Certain topics are covered with orientation towards GATE & IES
Some important basics and topics beyond syllabus are covered
Faculty are provided internet to prepare lecture notes
A good number of LCDs are provided in each department
Faculty are encouraged to attend seminars, conferences , workshop to
enhance their skills so that the knowledge can be transferred in a better
way
E-recourses, reference books are provided in the library
NPTEL and e-journals are available.

2.3.9 How are library resources used to augment the teaching- learning
process?
The library is the heart and soul of any educational institution. QISIT library
escalates the teaching- learning process by catering different services. It is
opened beyond working hours.

The college has a central library with carpet of 1060 sq. It is fully computerized
using OPAC system The resources available Titles: 6975 Total No. of Volumes:
40655 e- Journals: 175 Print Journals: 155 Digital Library: Yes 22 computers are
available with multi- media & internet facility NPTEL and 600+other video E-
courses are available
2.3.10 Does the institution face any challenges in completing the
curriculum within the planned time frame and calendar? If yes,
elaborate on the challenges encountered and the institutional
approaches to overcome these.
Admission process for lateral entry students completes after the
commencement of regular class work, to fill the gap bridge courses are
conducted. Normally the admission process is very late and so does the
instruction time. Faculty conducts extra classes and encourages students to
complete the wok on daily basis. Agitations due to bifurcation disturbed two
academic years and this interruption is compensated by arranging extra classes.
Unforeseen interruption of the class work is compensated by arranging extra
classes. The syllabus coverage is monitored by IQAC and remedial measures are
suggested to the teachers, if any lacuna if found. For all the iv year students
classes in programming languages, Group Discussions and Mock interviews were
conducted to excel in placements.
2.3.11 How does the institute monitor and evaluate the quality of
teaching learning?
Teachers performance in class room is evaluated from the students feed back
twice in a semester by considering 15 parameters on a 5 point scale. The
feedback is analyzed and evaluated on the score of 100 and the every faculty is
given a copy of the same for self evaluation. Depending upon the feedback
faculty is counseled by the corresponding head of the department and also by
the Principal if necessary. The Class work review committees (CWRC) takes care
of the syllabus coverage and quality of teaching. Annual reviews on detailed
self-appraisal forms helps in evaluation of teaching performance, research and
other performance related issues. The quality of course material, assignments
and question papers prepared by the faculty are assessed internally and suitable
suggested accordingly.
