 CHAPTER I

PREFACE

1.1 Background

Ocean engineering program is one of the engineering majors that concerned about
analysis, design, and operation in ocean environment. It is including two areas of work,
coastal/onshore area and offshore area. Ocean Engineering Program of ITB concerns in some
subjects to support the students such as field data analysis and acquisition, offshore/onshore
structure analysis and design, and also underwater acoustics.
The students should have not only hard skill, but also enough soft skill to apply the
knowledge gained in class. Professionalism is something an undergraduate must have, along
with good attitude, and efficiency in working, in order to be able to solve any problems that
might occur in real industry. As we are now facing the era of rapid development of
technology, it is essential for undergraduate students to have skills mentioned above. In
addition, a student should acquire good communication and social skill with other
workmates.
For that reason, students need to experience more and apply the knowledge in the real
working field because things that students learn in university are not the always the same as
the real fact in the field. In order to understand the environment, culture, and lifestyle of a
professional worker, one should have firsthand experience. In the other hand, for the
company, internship could be a good chance to search for new human resources and to
evaluate the quality of undergraduate student.
Based on those reasons, we want to apply for internship program to PT Tripatra
Engineers and Constructors, the company that concerned in engineering, procurement, and
constructors of oil and gas infrastructures. We hope that your company would accept our
proposal. We are sure that our knowledge could be applied in this company.

1.2 Purposes

In general, the purposes of internship activity are listed below :

For Students
1. To fulfill one of the requirements for ITB Ocean Engineering Program
students to graduate.
2. To get a chance to observe, compare, and apply theories and basic
knowledge gained from university in the real condition in industry.
3. To understand, practice, adapt to the professional working environment.
4. To know the work scope of the company in general such as: the history of the
company, company structural diagram, and the companys work fields.
For Company

1. To participate in helping the governments success on the educational and

labor field to create skilled, experienced, and competent generation.

 CHAPTER II

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

2.1 Method

The learning method that we expect in the internship at PT. Tripatra Engineers and
Constructors is learning and observation by cases that occurred in the field that will be
aligned with the company and guided by the supervisor in the company.

2.2 Scope of Internship

Based on the knowledge that we have received in Ocean Engineering program, such as
statics and fundamentals of structural analysis, mechanics of materials, management and
operational activity of the project, offshore structure, and construction method. We are
interested to apply these knowledges through practice by internship program at PT Tripatra
Engineers and Constructors in Department of Offshore Structures.

2.3 Time and Place of Internship

The internship will be held in:

Time : One month, start from June 2017 to July 2017
