The following diagnostic worksheet will help you do this; feel tee to photocopy and distribute it to your students for completion. In each section, students should insert a check mark for each correct answer. ‘Add together the total number of correct answers for cach section, 3. Compare the student’s number of correct answers for each section with the average number Lovieet for that section In addition. under each item. the percent af AP students who answered correctly is shown, so students can analyze their performance on individual items. This information will be helpful in deciding how students should plan their study time, Diagnostic Guide for the 2004 AP Physics C Exam Mechanics Kinematics (Average number correct: 34 out of 5) Question # 7 > 74 ” a Correct/Incorrect Ie Percent of Students Answering Correctly | 87 82 9 a 39 Newton's Laws; Work, Energy, Power (Average number correct: 7.7 out of 12) Question # +[5 17]? Physics C Exam can vary somewhat from year to year in their distribution across the content areas included in the course outline. For example, in other years there may be more emphasis on Newton's laws, energy, and momentum and less emphasis on kinematics and rotation than this ‘sxam exhibits, This is because it is ifisult Wy eves all he content in just three free-response questions. However, the free-response questions are always balanced by the content ‘ofthe multiple-choice sections in order to match the ‘course specifications more closely. The 2004 free-response ‘questions do illustrate some of the aspects of laboratory skills that will continue to be assessed, as well as types ‘of conceptual questions that will continue to be asked. ‘The student performance on both the Mechanics and the Electricity and Magnetism parts was lover than expected, {In both cases students did well on the first question but had low scores on the second and third questions. Scoring Guidelines, Sample Student Responses, and Commentary ‘The answers presented on the following pages are actual student responses to the free-response questions on the 2004 AP Physics C Exam. The students gave permission to have their work reproduced at the time they took the exam, ‘These responses were read and scored by the Leaders and. Readers assigned to each particular question. The actual scores that these student responses earned, as well asa brief explanation of why, are indicate.
