Yonsei Founding Philosophy

"If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will

its founding purpose based on the Gospel of John, Yonsei University
seeks to cultivate leaders who follow the Christian principles of truth

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Housing Complex Mu-Ak Housing Complex consists of 8 paired buildings,


each housing about 500 residents. Dorm #1 and #2 houses 600 male students
and 396 female students. Dorm #1 and #2 is finished to the remodeling in
2003.
Dorm #3 and #4 was additionally built, in 1998, in order to house medical,
dental, nursing students, and students preparing for national examinations.
Dorm #4-B (we call it "Foreign Instructors' Residence or FIR) is a 5-story brick
building, as all other dorms are, and houses about 80 instructors.
We are located within the University Campus, on the hill by the North Gate.

Dormitory room All rooms are equipped with the following essentials : beds,
desks, study chairs, wardrobe, shoe cabinets, and air conditioner.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE

Check In
Once you arrive to the building, personnel at the information desk will assist
you with the check-in procedures listed below.

1. Circle your name and room number in your group list.


2. Pick up your dormitory entry card, ID card and a dormitory packet.
(Please attach a photo(3X4) on the ID card)
3. After checking in, you may go directly to your rooms and unpack.
4. Each room has a pillow, a bed sheet, and a mattress pad per person.

Use of ID Card
When you enter the dorm, you must always put your entry card on the Card
Leader and keep your ID card guards. Remember your entry card & ID card is
nontransferable. If the entry card or ID is lost, report it immediately to the
Housing Office and we will issue a new entry card or ID card.

Check Out
Remember to return your dormitory entry card & ID card and other things
borrowed for temporary use to the front desk of each dorm when you leave.
In the case of leaving earlier than scheduled, you must contact the Housing
Office.
LIFE IN THE DORM

Telephone / Payphone
You can use the pay phone in the lobby. Pay phones that can be used with
small change or phone cards are located in each lobby and at the entrance of
each building. You can purchase phone cards at each convenience store.

Cafeteria / Snack Corner


Cafeteria is located at the basement of Dorm #2. Breakfast and dinner are
served everyday, including national holidays, but lunch is not served on
Saturdays.

Snack Corner(Yummygol) is located at the basement of Dorm #3.


The snack corner offers the following menu : Chrispy Chicken and tteobokki,
soft drink, etc.
Convenience Store
You can buy food coupons here. Limited sundry products(beverage, dairy
produce, living supplies, stationery, etc.) are available in the store.

How to make an account for printing?


A. Location : The Computer room of Dorm#2-B
B. To make an account
a. First, press the green button and enter the ID (we recommend to
use your class number ex. 2008123456) and press OK(blue button).
b. Enter the password (we recommend to use no more than 4
digits) and press OK(blue button) and OK(blue button) again for
reconfirm.
c. To charge, press the OK(blue button). and charge 1000 won (the
minimum charge) and press the OK(blue button) to finalize.

Setting up a Wire(IP-address) LAN in your room


The dorm uses fixed IP-address not auto IP- address, so internet can be

connected by entering IP- address. Please connect the lan cable to computer

and internet port before using internet

Each room provides a Lan Port

Lan cable must be purchased separately.
Where you can purchase lan cable : Alteulsem() in 1st floor of Student

If you can't find the IP-address sticker on the desk, please contact the
Housing Office or guard's office.

Setting up a Wireless LAN Agent(Windows 7) ; Notebook
1. Click the corresponding icons on the menu bar at the bottom

to use the wireless Internet by installing its agent
In case of a Windows user, choose 'Yonsei_info' for the name of wireless Internet (SSID) as shown in
the figure.
After having access to Yonsei_info,' run the Explorer (Internet).

Setting up a Wireless LAN for MAC(Mac Book)

Setting up a Wireless network for Android-powered smartphones

Methods for setting up the smartphones below which use Android OS are all the same
(GalaxyS, Motorolam, Google Android, LG Cyon Affiliation, Sky Affiliation)

Public Kitchen
Location : on the first floor of Dorm #4-B / Opening hours : 06:30 ~ 24:00
Kitchen Appliances & Utensils
It is equipped with some appliances of refrigerator, microwave and electric
range, and utensils like frying pan, ladle, spatula, scissors, pot stand,
gloves, and detergent. We do not provide knives for the safety reason.

Rental
- Rental Items: a set of pot, rice bowl, soup bowl, dish, spoon/chopsticks,
fork for 2 pax, 1 knife
- Deposit : KRW20,000 refundable upon return
- Procedure
1) Submit the application for to the Housing Office (the form is available in
the office)
2) Once the application is accepted, pay the deposit amount.
3) Once the payment is confirmed, get the locker key from the guard's
office of Muak 4-Haksa.
- Loss/Breakage
if there is any loss or breakage, it is to be compensated.
(100% compensation if broken)
While using public kitchen, please carry your entrance card(usually Student
ID card) and Dormitory ID necessarily.
Dishes should be washed and back in place after use.
Microwave : select menu or time and wait until completed.
Electric range : use the pot stand for hot pot or frying pan to prevent the
breakage of table glass.
Refrigerator : Put the label with your name on your belongings.
Garbage : Put the leftover food in the waste container beside the sink and
the other recycling items (can/bottle/plastics/paper) into the recycling bin at
the entrance.
Taking out the food is not allowed. (You should eat only in the kitchen)
While walking through the corridor to the common kitchen, please try to
refrain from shoe scuffing, making noise, and etc for the residents around.
Drinking or smoking is prohibited in the common kitchen
(those witnessed shall be expelled)
We do not take responsibility for any loss or damage of individual items.

Bathrooms
Bathroom and public shower facilities are located on each floor.

Cleaners & Laundry Room


Dry-Cleaning Shop
The dry-cleaning shop is located at the basement of the Dorm#2. The cleaners
offer the following service : Dry Cleaning and washing (3,000won/3), shirts
ironing, clothes mending.

Self-Laundry Facility
Laundry facilities are located at the basement of each dorm.
Each facility is equipped with washing machines(500KRW0, dryers(1,000KRW),
racks, etc.
Detergent and other items are available in the convenience stores.

ETIQUETTE : DRYER
It is acceptable to move someone else's dry clothes from the dryer
to a basket. (Folding it optional but appreciated.)
It is UNACCEPTABLE to remove someone else's wet clothes from the
dryer. If you are in a hurry for the dryer, you could always put in
another coin and restart it. (Someone may return the favor someday.)
If you open a dryer door for any reason, please push the start button
so operation will resume.

Helpful tips :

Do not use the washing machine after midnight.


Remove your clothing promptly when washing and drying are finished.
Use the washer/dryer machines carefully. Do not slam down on the
washing machine tops. The less they break, the more washing
machines are available for all students.
Unplug the iron as soon as you finish. This will help avoid possible
electric fire accident.
Do not put wet laundry on the ironing boards.
Male Students can't use Women's Laundry and vice versa.

Helpful tips : Closet


You can lock the closets and desk drawers in each room. You may receive your
keys from the administrative office (the office located in the entrance of the
dorm) where you reside. If you need them, just ask the guard's office.
Inform the guard's office (the office located in the entrance) of your room
number and you will receive the keys for furniture.
Key ID numbers are marked on each desk drawer and closet.
If you let the administrative office know your key ID numbers, you can identify
your keys easily.

Cash
There is an ATM machine located at the lobbies of Dorm #1 & #2. These can
be used during the day only. Students must open adomestic bank account in
order to use these ATMs.

Emergency
If an emergency occurs, contact the dorm buildings security guard. Especially in
co-ed, Dorm #2A, emergency phones are located on the first and second floor
in the hallway.

Electric Power
Only 220V power is available. They are not compatible with 110V.
If the electric appliance is only supplied with 110V, you can use a transformer
in the dorm. You need to purchase a transformer in the Altul-Saem(stationery
store) where is located in the first floor of Student Union Building.
The price of transformer is around 7,000KRW ~ 20,000KRW

Cleaning Equipment
On the lobby floor, the vacuum cleaners are available to borrow. The residents
must return the cleaner after the use. When you borrow the vacuum, please
show your dormitory I.D card to the guard.

Video Room(rest room)


In this room, students are able to watch TV and videos and male students
can't use women's lounge and vice versa.

This place is non-smoking area.
Please put back the journals(magazines, newspapers) after reading.
please put paper cups and empty cans into the trash bin in
the lobby.

Pst! This is a place to study. Please be quiet.


If you want to chat with your friend, we're asking you to use the
lobby/lounge.
This is a public place, so don't leave your private things.

Weight Room & Tennis Court


Weight Room is located in the first floor of Dorm #3 & #4. There are varieties
of workout machines indoors and 6 tennis courts outdoors.
Whenever enter the Dorm #3 & #4, show your dormitory I.D card at the
guard's office.
Weight Room Opened : 05:30 A.M / Closed : 11:30 A.M
ETIQUETTE : using the gym

This is a public place for all residents. Eating and making noise are
prohibited.
Soda cans should be thrown away in the trash can.
You have to know the right way to use the equipment before using it.
If it breaks, it will cause an inconvenience to others.
Return the equipment when finished.
RULES TO FOLLOW DURING YOUR STAY

Since the dormitory facilities are shared with all your fellow residents,
adhering to this list will make the stay at the dorm more comfortable and
enjoyable for everyone.

Curfew
The Dorms are locked between 12:00 A. M. and 5:30 A. M. You can not enter
the dorm during curfew hours. Also, please do not travel alone at night. We
encourage you to travel in groups of two or more.

Staying Out
When you stay out overnight, you have to sign on the list. If you go to the
trip for 2~3 days, you must leave your key to the front desk. The signing sheet
is available in the security guard's office.

Valuables
In order to make your valuables safe, keep the doors locked during your
absence. The Housing Office is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Helpful Tips :

Take care of your room password.


If you change your password with new password, you must consult with
your roommate.
Keep your valuables in the safe place.
Even if you leave the room for a little while, don't forget to lock
the door.
Compensation for Damage
Any damage done to the facilities must be paid for according to the
regulations of the Housing Office.

Visitors
Visitors must leave their IDs at the front desk and sign in.
Meeting Point : at lobby in each dorm / Visiting hours : 09:00~22:00

Demerits
This list of demerits is from the original booklet for regular Yonsei Students.
These rules listed below, caused some problems with previous summer
residents, so please take note and avoid accumulating these demerits.
It could lead you to be expelled from the dorm if the problems are serious.
Two warnings are given to students before dismissal.
No violence, thief, illegal act. - If you're found by the guard, you leave the dorm
right away.
Allowing visitors into the rooms overnight. - If you're found by the guard, you leave
the dorm right away.
Visitation of opposite sexes' dorm rooms. - If you are found by the guard, you leave
the dorm right away.
Drinking, Gambling, Hazing, Cooking in the dorm. - If you're found by the guard,
you leave the dorm right away.
Carried in or used the inflammables and a dangerous substance.
Lending your ID card to non-residents.
Using or bring electrical appliances such as coffee machine, refrigerator, irons, cooker,
etc.
Smoking.
Illegally received or opened postal matter of another person.
Who come and out through emergency door or window, not through front desk.
Using any property of the dormitory or damaging facility in the dorm.
Changing room without permission.
Who take unauthorized outsider along with him(her) to the door room.
Collect call.
Making loud noises that disturbs fellow residents.
If you don't obey the superintendents.
Not adhering to the curfew - Two warnings are given for breaking the curfew time.
The third occurrence will result in the dismissal of the resident from the dorm.
Who is absent without leave for a long time.
Scribbling, using adhesives on the wall, or distributing advertisement.
Eating food inside the room is not allowed. You must eat the foods in the
lounge or in the cafeteria, when you have foods delivered.
No pets - If pets are found by the guards, you need to leave the dorm right away.
Who disturbed in-house order.

For any problems about the living conditions, please don't hesitate to contact
the Housing Office.

an emergency situation within the dorm. All the phones within the dorm are
directly linked, so all you need to press is the numbers below.

Housing Office Hours : 9:00 A. M. to 5:30 P. M. [Monday ~ Friday]

Tip : Making a noise near the dorm (the door or the front yard) will
greatly bother other students in the dorm (ordinary students or other
program participants). Please make every effort to live harmoniously in the
dorm and give good impression to each other.
How to use a doorlock

How to register the password You can register one 4 digit password.
1. Open the cover of batteries and Push the password
Register/Change button. (almost 1second)

2. Input the Password you will register.


You can put in 4 digit.

3. Push the Password Register/Change button.(almost 1 second)


To change the Password, input a new password in the same way above,
then the former password is changed with the new one automatically.
When you change a temporary password with new password, you need to consult with
your roommate about new password.

How to Open the door with the Open/Close button from inside
1. Push the Open/Close button.
When closing the door, the door will be closed automatically.

To Open the door with Password from outside(e.g : when the password is 1234)
1. Press button.
2. Input the Password( ).
3. Press button.
4. Open the door.

After certifying the Password, if the door is not open for about 7second, the door will
be locked again for safety.
